Thought you all might get a kick out of this. I obviously have a lot of jewelry and am not at all careless about where I put my jewelry (I have a large custom-made armoire in my walk-in closet with numerous drawers and those drawers are organized largely by jewelry material (eg. gold, brass, sterling) and style.
So this morning I opened the drawer that holds my brass, copper and wood jewelry and found that the earrings I was looking for were missing. One of my favorite pairs -- A vintage pair of brass pegasus earrings that I thought might look good with today's grungy/RATE outfit.
Because I generally can tell you exactly where all of my jewelry is at any given time (even if I happen to take it off and put in one of several locations before putting it back where it belongs) I was really concerned that I had lost the earrings. I do have rare instances where I will take jewelry off when trying something on in a fitting room or at the seamstress but I am usually really good about laying it on top of my attire so there's no chance I accidentally leave it behind when done (these earrings, since they have wings, do have a tendency to catch on things if it sits too high up on my neck --like I can't wear them with scarves because the wings catch and snag on the scarf material). In this case, because I couldn't remember what happened to the pegasus earrings, I was afraid I'd done exactly that.
WIW posts to the rescue! After looking in all the usual spots where I sometimes leave my jewelry (bathroom, nightstand, desk) I said to myself... "when was the last time I wore these? That might help me remember what I was doing that day."
I went back through my WIW posts and found the last time I wore the earrings (2 months ago) --saw that I wore them with a thick wool sweater and said to myself, "I bet during the day they were accidentally catching on the sweater material so I took them off." In which case I would have thrown them in my bag while at work.
Used WIW photos to reference which bag I was carrying that day. Went to closet and checked bag. Sure enough, they were in the interior pocket.
I knew there was a reason beyond community sharing that I took the time to photograph the jewelry with my daily outfits. Were it not for the WIW reference photos, I'm pretty certain it would have been many months before I would have accidentally stumbled upon the earrings in that purse's interior pocket --all the while thinking I had lost them forever.
Yay YLF!!
