Pencil skirts are tricky, but not impossible. Try places like ATL instead of AT, or juniors section instead of women's, because they will be cut for those with slimmer hips and you won't end up with excess fabric on the side where the hips are supposed to fill in. And definitely no pockets in the front! A wider waistband can work miracles, as can a lot of stretch.
But I think the worst trouble is finding a denim skirt - the zipper in the front is a nightmare for apples because it'll just poof funny over the belly. Try denim skirts with no zipper detailing.
My biggest problem with skirts is that the hem will hike up shorter in the front because my belly is bigger than my butt.
As hard as it is to find just the right pencil skirt, I do agree it is a great look for apples.
Yublocka - I like A-lines too!
Finally, if all else fails, go to the tailor. I haven't done this in recent years but I do know that a tailor can work miracles on skirts - as long as the waistband fits, they can take the sides in and even alter the hem so it appears even. I am on the hunt for pencil skirts this fall, and if all else fails, that is what I am planning to do. Pencil skirts are such classics, it is worth the extra money, if the fabric is nice.
