Skirted leggings in Australia

I am totally sold on this concept! Thanks Gryffin, Firecracker and Karymk.

Aussies, have you seen any local sources? I am not up to EF prices. I have seen some advertised online for as low as $17 but ideally I'd prefer to go B & M

I'm totally sold on them too Anne, but haven't tried to source them. It may be the wrong time of year....I'll look in the Autumn. In the past years, when our dollar was up, I often ordered online from the USA quite often, but now our dollar is down, it is a more expensive proposition. And if you hunt, you can find most things here. I'll keep you posted when I find some in Melbourne.....I'm sure they'll be in stock somewhere.

Anne and DEB, I found a pair on the Giordano website. They look ok. I desperately need a pair for winter. Couldn't work out how to order them tho! But I will be going back to check as I find their quality good.

I checked out the online ones too Anne but my one experience doing that is that I won't be happy with the quality. I did find some for around $30.00 from an online seller that looked quite good tho.

I have been wearing a little jersey mini over my leggings but if I could get an all in one deal, that would be fantastic.

These are the ones. Only available in Small but that would probably be perfect for you Anne. They are sale stock? I might check Giordano when I am in Melbourne next as they may still have some in store and larger sizes.

I am so temped to press the button on those Giordano ones! They are a good brand aren't they?

Of course you are right DEB = these are not summer purchases. I doubt I'll touch leggings til around April but I can see skirted leggings making a gret contribution to my comfy casual capsules - and all my normal leggings are wearing out anyway. With a long torso it is hard to find jumpers long enough for decency and this will open up so many options.

Can you guess I am a little bored at work??

Ok the online facility isn't good so I haven't ordered but I did ring my Giordano store in Melbourne (DFO Moorabbin) and they have skirted leggings in black. They are currently reduced from $40.00 to $12.00. They are a jersey look and feel fabric in a free size. The SA (a guy) is going to take pic and text it to me. If they look good I will add it here for you. Ohhh pics just arrived. Added for you. My BFF is going to go by and pick me up a couple of pairs.

Anne if you are interested let me know and I can pick you up a pair in Melbourne this coming weekend. For $12 I am willing to give them a go. I have never had trouble with their quality and worst case scenario is they become loungewear.

BTW they do look short but I think they are full length. I will check that out. It may be that they just stretch out. I would be wearing mine with socks and tall boots.

How cool that the SA did that for you!! Those look a bit different from the link you put in above don't they.

However, Deb - yes I'll bite - I'd love you to get me some(only if you are going to Melb anyway, of course) Would it be okay to pay you at our Melb meetup? Otherwise PM me and we can work something out

As you say for $12 they'd be worth getting even if just for loungewear.

Anne you are lucky I am on holidays end of tomorrow Wohoo!

They are different. They are not as thick. I don't think the others are available in store any longer. The thick ones have that subtle ribbing whereas these are smooth and more like the leggings I currently wear I think. Also this skirt has the wrap around effect the other didn't.

I will be in Melbourne so no trouble at all. I will pick you up a pair and I can give them to you at the meet up .. easy peasy.

My BFF is going to try to get in today but if not I will go in on the Saturday. If by any chance they are rubbish I will pm you. But again based on my experience they should be fine.

Anne can I please hijack your thread to ask Deborah to maybe get me a pair too, if its not too much trouble. Only if the leg is full length, and I would need a large. If they are 'one size fits all' don't buy them - that size never fits me!!! This of course would mean you would need to post them to me (at your convenience, since I won't be wearing them anytime soon,) and sort out how to pay you. But please, only if its not too much bother. As you say at $12 I'm willing to try out this new look, can always wear them around the house.

PS Forgot to add that I actually prefer the look of the wrap skirt, the other pair in the link look too much like a mini skirt for my body/taste!!

No trouble at all Carolbee! Apologies, I should have asked if anyone else wanted to try a pair.

I think what I will do is head there on Saturday and do a try on. I am having trouble with the YLF app on my phone but I have your mobile number in my phone Carol (which I know you don't use a lot right?) so I could text you a couple of pics if there is any uncertainty. I expect to be there sometime Sat afternoon.

These look like a cool invention! I'm glad you started this thread Anne. Deborah, I noticed you mentioned that you were going to try to wear yours with socks and tall boots. Are they comfortable? Are they warm?

We use to call them skants and skousers in the '90s. I had a pair too. Not sure whether I will go there again unless the bottom is not black, and the skirt is not short.

Angie, some years back 'skants" were a little bit popular here But they were generally a wide, cropped leg with the overskirt. I had a pair but in hindsight they looks quite hideous. They were a difficult garment to style and create flattering proportions. This newer version sits a lot closer to the body and I think they are much easier to work with. Also the skirt on the ones we are considering (collectively here in Aus ) seems to have a skirt of a decent length.

I have only seen the skirted legging in black, however I did find these ones for you!!! (I am joking) They actually look a little like work out gear to me:)

SKIRTED LEGGINGS UPDATE:

My lovely BFF braved the Christmas shopping crowds and just phoned to tell me that the skirted leggings are really nice. She said the fabric is a lovely jersey, soft to the touch and on her they would be full length.

Carol my BFF is 5 ft 5 inches. I don't think you are taller than that?
Anne, how tall are you?

Now they are a free size and I will try them on when I get to Melbourne on Saturday Carol I am inclined to think that if they fit me they will fit you fine but will know better when I try them on:)

Hi Deborah. They sound great. Only 5'4" tall so length should be fine. I have put on a few kg since you saw me last, but planning to get it off again! Especially since they are made of jersey, I agree that if they fit you they should be all right for me. Very happy to leave it to your discretion, after all we are not spending a fortune. Thanks for your efforts. Thank you Anne for starting this thread, since we both know that some items/brands are hard to come by in Perth, and even worse for me in the country.

Debs, my skousers were very narrow fitting on the keg and had a short detachable A-line skirt. I didn't wear them that often because the skirt was too flared. A straight skirt with a front open vent like todays style, is a better idea.

FURTHER UPDATE:). Anne and Carol I will PM you both later but the skirted leggings were a bust. I tied them on and :

- very thin fabric, legging part quite sheer and too see through.

- Skirt too "flouncy" and long. Knee length at front and longer at the back.

- Anne they would fall of you ie one size would be too big, not a nice fitted
look

- Carol I don't think the fit would be good on you, they were not me.
No definition too flimsy.

My friend had a look when I put them on and we agreed they were just not flattering.

I can still get you both a pair but I honestly don't recommend them, they are really not what we are after. I think we should keep looking:)

From your description I have to agree Deborah. Too flimsy means it won't hide all my wobbly bits and although I don't want the skirt to be too short, conversely it should stop above the knee. Thanks for trying though, much appreciated.

Did you stick to your plan for your other purchases?
