Skirt?? Need dressing room feedback

I like the graphic nature of this, plus the design is actually stitched-on leather in white & silver. And I love this skirt length on me, which is surprisingly hard to find.

But does it make me look wide?

What do you think? Buy or leave behind?

i am trying to be impartial here because i also think like a pear but i would pass.
with that jacket that defines the waist your hips look proportional to the shoulders but it doesn't look superfab on you.

Can we see a rear shot? I am on the fence - I don't think it makes you look wide but it's not the most slimming either. I'd put it in the "not unflattering" camp right now. How would you style it? Would be a shame to cover up too much of it with longer tops, but shorter tops might make it look more square.

I love the pattern and style so much!

I am with Una, Janet. It's gorgeous...and it's not making you look wide, exactly...but there is something about it that is troubling me a bit.

I think it is a question of drape (or lack thereof). The fabric appears stiff and that makes me think it will be hard to wear and style. If it ends up creasing after you sit, then it will not be as flattering.

For me, with this kind of skirt it's actually better not to define the waist so well with a short, cropped and dark jacket. I'd like to see it with an open tuxedo jacket for example. Your shell/shirt underneath could still be tucked in to show most of the skirt. Or try with a white blouse. But if your plan was to style it like this I vote nay if this is a self-concious area for you. It is for me and it's hard to get past it even when other people say something looks fine.

I love the skirt, I love it on you, but I don't necessarily think it is *for* you. No pear-related concerns to be had about this one, that is what I - as a pear - think. And I totally get the length thing, this is my personal favorite length on myself too, and that fact alone sometimes makes skirts look like instant winners.

But, the detailing is very graphic and somewhat harsh, too angular, for your style. While I think you personally could make it work, I also think there are better things out there.

It's very classy . . . . but, yes, kinda stiff. I would have seriously considered tailoring in the sides a bit but maybe that's more hassle than it's worth.

I like the skirt a lot, but it looks very structured, and that along with the angular design might not be the best thing for your curves.

A beautiful design. Doesn't make you look wide. Makes you look like you have a tiny waist.

But yes, there's something off. It makes your hips look to me like they're so far down, that they belong to someone else. Maybe because of the where the pattern points hit.

Ok. Anyways, I realise you've passed this up already... The right choice I think.

I love the concept of it, it looks like something Galadriel would wear to go out on the town but there is something off with the stiffness. It looks like it is wearing you a little or that it is armor or something.

Thanks, everyone. Good observations. I think the scale of the embellishment, combined with the placement and the stiff fabric creates a bit of that flat effect I see in the photo (and apparently some of you see as well). It was close, but not perfect.

I don't like the fit as it stands, but I would have been curious to see the sides pinned in. I really prefer skirts this length to be tapered on figures like ours.

Am I late to this? I like this year's new trend on graphic patterned skirts, and bought myself some, too. I think is a great change from boring uni skirts, and could be dressed for work, too. That said, and hope will appreciate my honesty:-) I think it's a bit widening on the hips as styled here.
BUT for God's sake, why not adding longer tops,or jackets?????
It will totally solve the problem.
Is a statement piece for sure.

Late to the party, but I think I might pass and find some equally fab graphic statement top instead. For me, when I start thinking too much about how to MAKE something work I realize that it's best to keep looking for something that feels less forced.
