Skinny jeans + tall boots: outdated in 2014?

Is the skinny jeans/jeggings tucked into tall boots look outdated?

I never really adopted it but in putting the laundry away last night I remembered that I bought myself a new pair of tall black leather riding-style boots last year which I don't think I have ever worn! Next week I'm going out of town and it would be nice to take them along, but I'd want to wear them with more than just skirts if I do. I have two pairs of black jeggings that would work with them.

No, I think it's a classic silhouette that can be done in a modern way, with a fluid top, statement sweater, etc.

I know some people here are over the look because its been so prevalent in the last 5 years or so, but IMHO it's too practical in cold weather, and potentially flattering, to dismiss as outdated.

Agreeing with Janet. I think it's classic and absolutely still in, especially in cold wet weather.

I went shopping two weekends ago, temps are now in the 50s-60s F and the majority of the women I saw, all ages, were wearing skinnies, jeggings or leggings tucked into tall boots. It looked as if they couldn't wait to sport the look. So, in my neck of the woods in Texas, the looks is still "hot." I'll wait for colder weather before I wear my tall boots though.

I hope it's not outdated. It's a practical, cool-weather look. I'm with Janet on how to make it still look fresh.

Here in NZ the look is not as prevalent as it was a couple of years ago but our climate is milder. It is still worn frequently and I still like it.

I notice great looks are popular for longer now, or can be tweaked or adapted. Tunics and leggings/ ponte pants being another trend that refuses to die, casual non boho maxi dresses another. All these looks can look very stylish and current.

Here in the mid-South, before we even had this real cold snap, everyone (except me!) was out in their tall brown boots with skinny jeans tucked in.
I mean, it was an explosion! I think they're outvoting the stylists.

I never took to this look because I never found the right tall boots. But I don't see it as dated. I wear skinnies tucked into or rolled, with ankle boots a lot (still -- it's a look that's been out a number of years as well).

Classic and highly functional in any wet, cold, and/or snowy winter environment. As long as the boots have some modern details you should be just fine.

I think with black jeggings, it'll be a good look. I agree, far too practical a combo to ever be chucked.

However, I confess to being a little tired of the blue denim, tan boot, grandpa cardigan way of doing things. I need that to be over, people. Hehe.

Why buy an awesome boot and hide it under jeans? I say it will never go out as long as boots are around- we have to see them! My fave things in my closet are my La Canadienne cherry red patent boots- and I always wear with skinnies tucked in because they are meant to be seen!

Yeah, tall boots under bootcuts was just dumb - a waste of nice leather. Check out Angie's recent equestrian ensemble. Tons of riding boots in the stores this year. I feel like cognac is especially hot.

This look hasn't been as popular over the past few years in Oz as the bootie has ruled in shoe stores and in street style. Judging by this years runways, the popularity of the knee high boot has re-surfaced again along with the bootie.

I wear booties with my skinnies when I want to feel more current. But I wore tall boots with them both yesterday and today. Also agreeing with Janet--a more modern top or cardigan brings the look into *now*.

Bottom line: If you like the silhouette, go ahead and wear it. It's classic - not like shoulder pads and other trends that have come and gone. You can tweak the look with a modern top and be done with it.

I drank the koolaid and had been wearing slimmer pants with booties but realized this year that a heavier boot worked much better for me with the skinnier pants as it helped to balance out my hips and shoulders much better. That is the beauty of the current fashion environment - you can wear more than one look and pick and choose what works best for you without being unfashionable.

Wore an "old outfit" yesterday of classic riding boot, skinnies and peacoat but I carried a brand new bag and it felt completely new. I think you can remix this look every fall/winter with small tweaks in the wash of the jean, scarf, etc. and look current if not cutting edge. Like Angie says, you need to update even your most classic pieces from time to time as fabrications and cuts change eventually to make things look and feel "dated" but if chosen carefully this look has "legs".
