Sizing question: EF and Voie

I have the Armelio Joie sweaer by Joie, and am getting ready to pull the trigger on an EF asymmetrical sweater. I think. Can anyone advise me as to sizing? Do you think I'd wear the same size in the EF as the Joie? They seem similar like they should be similar in how they hang... And I LOVE the Joie.

Or somebody could chime in on EF sizing in general. I do seem to go back and forth between a M and a L these days, erring to L because of the oversized "look". My Joie is a M.

EF runs gigantic. I usually wear a M/8 and I am at largest a S in EF.

For The type of top you are thinking of in EF, I'd go smaller. It depends on how fitted the EF piece is, but in general go a size smaller. The cuts tend to flare out a bit in the midriff so that they skim any extra bulges there. I can't compare to Joie.

I'd suggest the size depends on how much you want the EF statement. I size down for wardrobe staples (recent: L silk trous, XL silk tunic), size up for sweaters that I want to be dramatic (1X asymmetric cardigan in linen). And I ordinarily wear 14s/16s top and bottom in other lines.

Yep. Size down (or the lower end of your range). I can be either a small or medium in other labels, but my new EF sweaters are a small and an extra small. XS would have worked in both, but they didn't have it.

Adding ...it may also depend on how busty and how tall you are. I usually wear a regular size 2-4 top. In this EF top the largest I'd go would be a regular XS, but probably a PetiteP (PP) or PSmall would be a better fit for me. I find that EF can be quite long in tops. I don't have the bust to fill out the tops.

Adding to what Joy said ... I'm 5' 4" and don't usually wear petites, but in EF the PS fits me best. I'm usually a M, sometimes a S in other brands.

That sweater doesn't look like one of the crazily oversized ones, so I would guess that you'd take a medium in it.
I'm ordinarily a 6 or 8 in tops and in Eileen Fisher I take a S or XS, depending on the style.

Normally I wear an M but in most EF I've done better with an S. I have one Joie blazer and it is size 10. Typically I wear an 8 or a 10. I'm tall--5'8 1/2".

I am also between the line of a large and medium frequently. I tried on a very similar EF sweater and the M was good--fluid but not too too huge. I am usually an 8 or 10 in sized tops and shorter at 5'5" but with swimmer's shoulders and a long torso.

ETA: I like my sweaters and knitwear to drape a bit more and that is why I have a lot of sweaters that are larges from other brands. The EF would be good in M I think.

I will just chime in with DIFFERENT advice - I ordered the scoop neck linen sweater in Petite XS and S, and am actually ordering if in regular sizing, because I found it a bit short, although everywhere else, the SP was a good fit, and that is my usual size.

EF sizing is generous and sometimes verges on huge. I tried on a skirt the other day, and the small was actually roomy. I have bought one EF tank that is a small and fits well in a fluid manner.

My take on EF is that sizing isn't as critical as it is in other brands because so many EF designs are constructed to drape on the body. I've found, when trying on her designs in a dressing room, I can often fit into a S, M, and L--and could theoretically wear any of those sizes depending on what kind of look I was going for with that outfit.

If you are looking for a loose, drapey fit, I'd try the M for starters. In my experience, one of the reasons so many people prefer to size down one or two sizes in EF is because it takes a bit of adjustment to move from tailored or body-con fits to the EF fit where garments getting their shape from the way fabric drapes and folds around a living, in-motion body.
