Sizing: J. Crew Thomas Mason Tuxedo Shirt K/R/Exchange?

Like a number of you, I, too, fell in love with Angie's J. Crew Thomas Mason shirt shown here: ">http://youlookfab.com/2013/04/02/sassy-sneakers/">Angie's tuxedo shirt

The quality of the shirt is luxurious and I love the feel of it next to my skin. I decided to buy the J. Crew tuxedo shirt, in blue, and I'm not sure if the size is right (need smaller one?). I bought a Regular size 0 and I don't know if I need a Petite 0 or Petite 2 (since a petite 2 has the same measurements as a regular 0). I'm 5'3-1/2", so I'm in between regular and petite. At this price point, I want to be sure that I am buying the right size for me to enjoy it and have a great-looking shirt.

I always go to Angie and YLF, first, to seek the best opinion and will, secondarily, email the J. Crew personal shopper and, thirdly, go to a J. Crew store and get their visual opinion, if necessary.

If Angie checks in, I'd also love to know how you scrunch your sleeves up while folding down the cuffs to the wrist and not have them look so loose and floppy? I tried that, in photo 3, and the smooth fabric didn't seem to stay gathered up on my scrawny arms (note to self: do a few push-ups).

As far as color, I'm also undecided here, as well, and go back and forth on the color, because while the blue is a beautiful shade, I do wonder if the white will be more useful to me.

I LOVE the blue on you and unless you have other similar blue shirts I'd say stay with it. This size might be a touch long, but it's still a very nice fit. I have no advice on keeping the sleeves up. I'm hopeless at any "fancy stylin'". SOS Angie!

Well, I love the colour and I think it looks great on you. But if you want to see a petite for comparison, maybe that would be a good idea.

Since I didn't even know petite was an option, I didn't try it. (We couldn't order petite from Canada).

This is the right size for you, I think, and I love the color on you. For scrunching/folding: Pull the sleeve back until the cuffs are above your elbow, the sleeve is now in two layers (one, long fold). Then fold the sleeve beneath the cuff, two or even three times over into an ordinary folded sleeve except for the cuffs that protrude at the top of the fold. The cuffs can be tucked a little back into the fold for neat "flapping". I hope this is comprehensible.

I think this looks how it is supposed to! The blue looks great with your complexion and hair.

I didn't see petite on the US website either.

I am not sure about the fit as the tuxedo shirt is supposed to fit a bit differently, I think. If they have it in petite, I would give it a try before you make your final decision.

I like the blue on you, but I am not familiar enough with your wardrobe to know if the blue or white would work better.

I think you're right in saying there is no Petite offered. I guess 00 is the smallest, but I don't want it to be too tight around the chest. I don't know why I thought Petites were available.

Thanks for your quick feedback; I want to get this sorted soon. Ingunn, your description was totally comprehensible and I can't wait to try this folding technique.

To my eye, you definitely need to try a petite. Actually, if both are available, I think you should try both P0 and P2 because sizing can occasionally be weird if they were manufactured in a different country or other oddities. And yes, I am one who has started to order in three sizes (two petites and the regular in-between) if I really like something.

Okay, I just got off the phone with a gentleman and he said there are no petites in this shirt, however, there is a 00 in the white only and 0 is the smallest for the blue.

I think this is the right size for you, Vicki, if you go smaller it will be too tight in the back I suspect. The fit is supposed to be a little boxier, that's the charm of this tuxedo shirt. I love it with the sleeves scrunched, and Ingunn has you sorted there. A crisp white shirt is always fab in my book, but I also really love this light blue on you, so fab with your hair and beautiful eyes. Plus, I've discovered that this exact shade of blue is quite hard to find in a (tux) shirt, and I happen to love the colour so much. It looks especially fresh here with your white booties, Vicki, and super fabulous with your grey blazer, wow!!

I'm was going to say you need a petite 2 or even a petite 4. Definitely do not go smaller! But it does look a tad long, which makes sense since you are beautifully petite! BUT, they don't sell petites in the style as you just found out

Okay! I'm back!

I added a little tacking stitch with needle and thread to the middle of the button stand placket on the vent of the cuff to make the opening smaller. That way, my sleeves stay scrunched.

Angie, I am going to have to do your scrunching tip - I have thin arms and my sleeves never stay scrunched.

I like the length of this shirt, but then I prefer my shirts on the longer side. As long as the shoulder seams are where they are supposed to be, then I think the fit is fine - tuxedo shirts are supposed to be a bit boxy, I think.

I love the blue, and it would be my preference for my own wardrobe too. As much as I love crisp white, the softer blue is such a great colour! It looks great on you!

I do a double roll on my sleeves. I fold them back twice as far as the cuff, then fold the extra back over the cuff. They stay put perfectly like that without feeling tight.

Thanks for checking back in with your alteration tip. This will help immensely as will the great folding techniques, too.

To everyone, I'm really grateful for the sizing and color feedback. Whenever Angie recommends something like this, or even the new dress line she posted yesterday, I'm eager to take a close look and usually end up with happy results. When I'm on the fence, hearing from forum members seems to solve any questions or uncertainty that may surface.
