Sizing Advice Please - YouLookFab Forum

First, please excuse my sloppy appearance! I ran out for a quick errand and decided make a stop at J Crew Factory while I was out. J Crew closed down in my area but at least the Factory remains open.

I found these brightly colored wide leg trousers, which tic two boxes: I’ve been searching for wide leg pants, and I’ve been wanting some colorful clothes. Pics 1 and 2 are the larger size, pics 3 and 4 are my normal, and the smaller size. The fabric has a slight stretch to it, which unfortunately contributes to the wiskering in the front.

Pics 5/6 are how they look on the model - which is 100% different than how they look on me! They look both narrower and shorter (and I’m just under 5’8” so I’m not short!).

Personally, I like the look of the bigger ones in front and the smaller ones in back. The fit feels perfect in the smaller size, but with the wiskering in front maybe they look too small? The bigger pair is a tad too long for flat shoes and would need tucks in the waistband.

So what’s your advice? Bigger (1/2), smaller (3/4), or keep looking? You won’t hurt my feelings if you say the bigger size looks better (J Crew Factory sizing is all over the place). Do I hear you saying “Next!” or is one of these a winner?

I think the ones in 1-2 look like a good fit through the seat. The ones in 3-4 look tighter. I would go with the fit in 3-4 for jeans, but for this style of pant I would choose the more skimming fit.

Any chance they’ll stretch out? I’ve been dinged way too often by buying the “looser” fit and then regretting it after wearing the pants for a few hours.

Aquamarine, that is my concern too - they do have a bit of stretch to them, and they probably will stretch during wear. I’ve also bought the looser fit in the past and had them stretch out too much during wear.

Ohhhh, this is a tough one, for just the reason Aquamarine mentions. Maybe you could check reviews to see what customers may have said about the stretch factor? I really like the pants for you and hope you'll keep them, but as to the size...so tough to judge!

I too would be concerned they may stretch out further. I think go for the smaller pair.

Karie I am sorry but I don’t feel either pair fits correctly. Both sizes pulling a lot at the front. Just one person’s opinion of course.

I'm agreeing with Jenni NZ, maybe these aren't quite the ones but its hard to judge from just photos and there is the potential stretch factor. My feeling is to not just settle unless you really love them and can somehow satisfy your concerns.

Maybe the rise isn’t quite right which makes both sizes pull in the front? I agree with Jenni NZ, I would keep looking. I suspect you’re indecisive between the two because something feels a bit off….

Ah, the wisdom of this group of friends is both amazing and refreshing! Amazing because of your ability to read my mind and say what I’m thinking but wondering if others see, and you all always add additional insights and thoughts that hadn’t occurred to me. Refreshing because of your honesty- it’s like shopping with a dear friend and I’ve said “OK, give it to me straight!” I know I can count on you.
While I adore the color and style of these pants, perhaps there’s a better pair out there for me. If I have time I might go back to the store and try them on again with something I would actually wear with them, but with a $118 price tag (when did J Crew FACTORY get so expensive? Like, hello, you’re not J Crew!) they might just stay in the store.

I prefer the larger size in pics #1 and #2. They look more comfy, chic and better for Summer to my eye. Super cute look on you! I don't think that type of whiskering is problematic (on the larger size). The pants aren't tight, and they will probably fall out during the day - in my experience.

I’m with the group that say NEXT. Keep in mind what you like about these pants (colour, fuller leg) but look for better fabrication.

I like the larger size and prefer to wear my own pants that way when it's a wider leg style.

I like the larger size on you, although I can tell it's still a bit tight in the hip area, so if they're going to stretch then it might fit better. I like the design and color of the pants!
