Sized out, ugh!

So tonight I had time to kill before my event. I decided to browse Totokaelo as it was nearby. I just wanted to see what they had in stock, see if there was anything worth breaking my shopping moratorium. There was very, very little in my size. And the way they set up their website, it was never in stock in my size. They had lots of gorgeous Acne Studios jackets, the largest size was a 38, I'm a 40 in that brand.
I'm know I'm at the top end in a lot of designer stuff, but really?!?! I guess I did save my hard earned dollars.

That is crazy. Unless I am mistaken, a 40 is an 8 or 10 which is far from a large size.

I know. I was sized out of Angie's A-line denim skirt, which brought back such memories and which would have really worked for me!

I find it interesting that so many retailers are struggling in the current economic climate, yet refuse to stock a decent range of sizes!

Extremely annoying . I understand completely. I'm plus sized so I generally can't find much at most retail shops. Some plus retailers are trying to get more of the smaller plus bracket and have double or tripled the orders for the 14-20s , leaving those who are 22-28 with only one or two of a item to the others four to six. If it's running small!?!?!?....
Oh my.
It would almost be nicer if there were shops committed to one size range ONLY. And they'd offer great quality ,consistent sizing,and great styles.and I'm probably dreaming ..

I'm a bit stunned as well that Acne Studio jackets don't come in your size. Well, if they are going to be that limited with sizes, then a more deserving brand should get your hard earned dollars

Acne Studios jackets do come in my size. But Totokaelo is not stocking that size.

I find it infuriating when designers or stores decide that everyone should be a tiny size.

My theory is that they believe that sizing out people will make them shrink (it's another form of manipulation with the purpose of creating a 'perfect world'). Also, I guess they want to save on fabric?
I don't know, makes absolutely no sense to me. Consider yourself lucky for not living in Spain (although they do have really nice weather). If you don't fit within the 32-42 range you just have to dress plus size, and plus size options are expensive, or unfashionable, or both. Bear in mind I am an AM 2/4, a British 8/10 and a Spanish 38/M-L. So not only are they narrow-minded, but their idea of Small size is very, very small.

Yep, you saved your dollars, and you can spend them at a store that caters to you.

I sometimes feel like retailers forget that there are a lot of people not a super small size that have fashion dollars to spend.

Oh, don't get me started. I hate walking into a boutique and flipping through the sizes of an intriguing item...00, 0, 2, 4...and then nothing. W.T.F. And higher end brands are the worst. I was seriously bummed when I visited the IRO store in NYC and discovered that they completely reworked their sizing. My cobalt IRO jacket is a size 2 (yeah, their sizing was weird before) and fits perfectly. They went to a european sizing scale and I could barely get my arms into the sleeves, even sized up from whatever my usual size 6-8 translated to in their european sizing. I commented to the SA about it and mentioned that they've lost a customer now. I mean, come on, I know my arms are not small, but really?

Oh well, more money in the bank.

Consider the plight of the average US Woman with a waist size of 37.5" (and 50% of us are larger than that).

Even J Crew stops at size 16 = 34.5" waist or maybe size 18 = 36" waist. Instead of adding size 000, they could have reached a huge market in the US by including sizes 20-28.

Anna, please tell me that you told them how disappointed you were! They know you and you put a very personal (and charming) face to the result of their decision. You aren't a large person and you should be able to go into a store you shop at often and at least know your size was ordered (even if it sold out).

I wonder if it's designers refusing to manufacture above a certain size, because their clothes were designed for limited body types. Or is it that the bulk of sales happen at smaller sizes, so they don't bother. A question for Angie.

Anyway Anna I think this is a weird time when not all of the fall merchandise is out yet. Try again in a few weeks.

Acne Studios makes my size. I've bought plenty of pieces. Other vendors sell my size. They are just making hard for me to be Team Store and shop local.
I did send a salesperson an email.

what about the other end, sized out at the smaller sizes? when a 0P is too big? at 5' 3" I am not exactly teeny tiny.

I acutally did email them about it, and got a canned response
