Similar pieces different style

These are two outfits I’ve worn lately. I really like this kind of thing and need to know how I can carry it through to winter.
Both skirts are trelise cooper and tops are thrifted.
Though they seem similar, my niece says the styles are different which surprised me. What are your thoughts?

I see them as similar, too. Though I think the one with the print top and cardi may seem a bit more creative, whereas the solids look more subdued or businesslike. Maybe that's what your daughter is getting at?

Anyway, I would take this look into winter by substituting long-sleeved tops in similar styles, layering over them with a flowy cardi like you're wearing in 2 (but in cashmere or lightweight wool)-- or a vest could work, too-- and wearing tights and tall or short boots. I've had sweater tights and fleece-lined tights that are cozy for winter, if you need the extra warmth.

It appears the shapes are the same (loose fit, v- neck) but one is solid and the other patterned - so slightly different vibe. (I like the top tucked in per #2 for the nice proportions and neater look.)

It is a kind of uniform dressing. I do similar with jeans in an identical cut, but white, and two different washes of blue. I have 6 different v- neck t- shirts for warm weather and v- neck sweaters for cold. Mix and match colours, but identical silhouette.

Oh I see them as different. V-neck tops and circle skirts yes, but the first is more tailored, ‘straight.’ The second, the top has more drape, the skirt is gathered, and a paisley-like pattern(!)

Thanks. I wondered if the 2nd one was more boho than the first. I agree there are differences but what are the two different styles.
@staysfit yes I will add some tights and have the boots. I guess a fitted top and cardigan would be more in keeping with the silhouette rather than a chunky jersey.
@Runcarla yes it helps if you can work out the ingredients of a silhouette so I aim for a semi-fitted top and flowing skirt and mix and match the tops.
@Rachylou - I guess so but can you define the two different styles. I waiting for my niece to do so as she is usually good at giving a name to a style.
@Jenni I agree with you. I thought the formula was the same.

The vibe is similar, but the palettes are different. Unstructured, skirted, thong sandals, breezy, casual x2.

I’d call the first casual and the second arty, off the top of my head… but I wouldn’t really be satisfied with ‘arty’… I want to say ‘Oak Park Summer Faire’, but that’s too obscure, lol

Yeah, I would call the first one clean lined and athletic and the second BoHo.

I would call the first one Natural and the second one Boho. Both are casual.

Well both look great, but the pattern and fabric on the second give it a different vibe than the first.

LOL Racylou....I had to look that up but couldn't find it. I think you have just made a style up. That could be a fun challenge...making up styles with obscure names.

Cat2 and quinta22 Yes i thought the 2nd one was more boho. I can see how the first could be athletic...especially if I wore sneakers. I think I like the natural moniker and think I might add to my moniker.

Wait, what? Y’all don’t make these things up all the time?

The idea of two different looks with items that are quite similar kinda gets at a thing I’ve noticed lately about my style, particularly in summer. I think I follow pretty much the same rules as everyone else, but with color and pattern—my colors and patterns that appeal to me (no heavily rule-based patterns like polka dots, stripes, or plaids). For a lot of people here, the simple presence of those two elements seems to throw my summer style into a whole different space, an MMA arena where there are no rules. I think your daughter did a similar thing with your two outfits with similar pieces that have different details. Might be a fun exercise to try to do this intentionally.

I don't know about the styles but I love both of these and see why you are enjoying wearing them. I agree for winter you can get a similar vibe with changing out the tops for warmer ones and the sandals for boots. These are really cute on you.

Agree the first one reads more sporty or urban than the second. Not sure how I'd class either of them though - if you had to consider accessories for either outfit, what would you go for (i.e. bag)? That might give a clue as to your subconsciously intended vibe.

I agree with others that the first one is more minimalist, straight lines, and a bit more tailored, whereas the second one says boho to me. They both look like you!

@stagiaire fash = yes it would be a fun exercise. I might mix things up next week and see the changes if I pair the more flowing skirt with the fitting top etc. If I add more accessories to the first outfit would it become more boho.
@RobinF Thank you for the suggestions. I have some boots which I picked with the skirts in mind. I also have some chunky and more fitted knitted tops...rolll on winter.
@Zaeobi yes I see what you mean by more urban. good idea about the accessories. I would have a simple necklace for the first but more bangles and maybe a scarf for the second more boho look. Also a floppy hat might go well for the second.
@jonesy - Thanks ...interesting how outfits can have different vibes but there must be an element in common that rings true for someone's style.
