Ditto what Joy says. Even without the silicon sachets/crystals (though it certainly helps), a set of ziploc baggies is just the thing, even in my sauna-style tropical climate. Adding tissue or an outer pouch of silk helps to absorb some more moisture too, but that interferes with visibility too.
By the way, the toothpaste trick IS dependent on white paste, not gel, which doesn't work quite so well --- but it *does* take a smidge of the silver with it (it's basically reacting with the fluoride, which becomes a great sharp acid with water and reacts with the silver particles in the tarnish, dissolving them away), so I'd avoid trying it too often on something that's antique or a delicate filigree etc.
