Side-laced jeans - ETA tried a pair

Since I wear jeans so frequently, I'm always on the lookout for something a bit new. I like the idea of side-laced jeans (at least if they do not have actual skin-baring holes). The skinny silhouette is not new. Here are a couple of samples in finds.

Has anyone tried this style?

I ordere two pairs to try. One arrived today, surprisingly. I guess NM did not know it was treat yo'self day. These are black coated AG legging jeans, mid rise, with silver grommets. I believe they may well signify too much muchness. Opinions are welcome. (Photo is a bit skewed ... I don't really have Mick Jagger skinny legs.)

I haven't tried them, but they have been on my radar, since I am also always on the lookout for the new styles. I have read somewhere that this style is one of the current micro trends in jeans, together with patchwork and some others. Anyway, I quite like them and would definitely give them a try.

Out of the ones you are showing, I like the first two pairs the best - I prefer the clean look of black and cropped length - the full length ones in #3 seem to be fighting a little with the laces. The first ones have a higher rise, while the second pair is a low rise, so i would go with whichever rise suits you the best.

I can't seem to get into ankle length pants; perhaps it's a permanent emotional scar fro elementary school days and pants I got too tall for before mom & dad could afford new ones LOL. I like them on other people just fine, though.

I'm really liking the AKC and faith connexion examples. I like them a lot, and could actually see myself wearing them long past their shelf-life as a microtrend.

I tried on a st john skirt with lacing on the side and it was one of the hottest thing i have ever tried on. I regret not buying it.

Cool! I like the cropped pairs... I think the scrunching on the longer ones + the lacing = too much going on. I do wonder whether the lacing would distort over tight spots though (in my case that would be upper thighs).

I haven't seen these before, but oooooh I think they are wonderful. I really like pair #1, agreeing with what Tanya said about the longer pairs. I like the way the laces would swing a little by the ankles.

I picked up this pair from express this week. They carried them a couple years ago and just stopped. The micro trend explains why they are back. They also had patchwork ones.

I'd like to see some in white, for summer. The black ones veer towards 'biker' to me. Imagining them in white denim, yup, I'd definitely try a pair.

I have been stalking a similar pair on ASOS (sold out now). They were black and more joggers than jeans. The bit of ease in joggers would (hopefully) solve the tightness issue. I really like the look.

I like the idea! If it's done simply and laces up on the calf only. I would like to try these in full length, not cropped, with a mid rise.

ETA I notice all of them lace all the way up. :-/ Putting in a request to denim designers to do a version that laces up to maybe the knee. Because some of us have thighs of doom.

Ok, I feel aged out of these but would enjoy them on others. ( maybe in a year or two I will be beyond caring.)

I saw a couple that were calf-only laces. If I remember where I will add to finds. I don't think a cyclist can have thighs of doom though. Unless they are so strong they crush .... (ok I am not finishing that thought)

I like them on others. I think Bennett hit the nail on the head. The black is a tad too tough for me, but white might be perfect.

Of the ones you posted, I like the 2nd ones best. (Maybe #1 but they don't show a good side view.) I don't care for the silver grommets on the third pair.

The photos are a little dark, but from what I can see, they look totally fabulous. Is it the combination of leather and lace (that could be a song!) that makes you feel it is too much?

I also agree with Brooklyn that they look very good on you and I quite like them. Maybe you feel that might be a bit much because of the studded booties - simpler footwear might let them shine? I would wait for the second pair to arrive and then compare and decide.

I think they look fantastic on you. Whether you feel comfortable in the style is up to you, of course. If I had a prayer of these looking good on me, I would probably style them with fairly simple, classic supporting acts to counter the very rock'n'roll vibe.

Those boots are amazing too.

I wouldn't really wear them with the Bing boots; they just were at hand when I was picture-taking. I am going to wait to see how the non-coated pair look and then make a decision.

OMG love them! So so cool look fantastic on you too. I don't think they are too much. Just keep the top simple and elegant. I actually like them with the the boots though.

These are great. Love the laces all the way up.

This level of rock n roll isn't my style but I would wear them in a faux suede or velour.
