Showstopper wardrobe items

Do you have any beloved wardrobe items that you feel are especially glamorous, stunning or stylish, and that always make you feel super fab?

I live an extremely casual life but I have a couple items that make me swoon: a deep plum-colored velvet overcoat, and a wide-leg, long sleeve jumpsuit with impeccable drape. The coat I wear often in the winter; the jumpsuit, not as much as it's pretty dressy.

What are your showstopper items? How often do you wear them, and where? How do you feel when you wear them?

Oh man. Ledonna, you rock that look. I am such a huge fan of one-shoulder dressing. Most of all, it's so clear in the photos that you feel ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS in them. Bravo!!

1) My very favorite formal dress, which I coveted for years before acquiring it secondhand and now keep in waiting for a "new" dressy occasion that I can rewear it to. Although strapless isn't my best look due to a very small bust, I just adore the black and white floral pattern and the twirly skirt (it has a tulle underskirt giving extra poof).

2) My first leather jacket. Classic black moto with zippers. Although I don't wear it as much as I'd like, every time I do I feel like I could take on anything.

Ledonna, I LOVE those outfits on you.

I don' t have a picture of my favorite boucle wool jacket with a peplum and zipper trim, but that thing makes me feel like 100 bucks.

Also, you can't beat a fancy red dress for grabbing attention, lol.

My metallic Burberry trench - I wear it a lot in late spring/early fall. My J. Crew bright cobalt wool coat - worn quite often in winter months. Both make me feel very glamorous.

I have a RL velvet bias cut skirt. It has a paisley pattern on it that you almost can't see because it is so dark. It goes to my ankles and I wear it a lot for dressy occasions with a simple ivory lace blouse or a denim shirt and a wider brown belt. I feel elegant and sophoticated in it. I got it from a thrift shop with the tags still on for $20. It has a 10 inch rip in the seam. I have been sewing for almost 50 years so I took it home and sewed it up. My all time favorite piece of clothing.

My style is rather simple. I really love my dressier dresses, but I wouldn't call them showstoppers. I just feel great when I wear them.

A beaded black silk jacket I bought back in the day (90s). I wear it with black silk pants, skirt, or dress. It weighs a ton but the way it fits and shimmers draws compliments every time I wear it. It requires a black tie occasion, though.

I wouldn't really call any of my clothes showstoppers, but I do have a pair of teal suede boots that I always feel fab in, and a red winter coat with a big collar.

I get a lot of compliments on a jacket I made that is collarless, two-toned tweed, with zippers inset into the shoulder yoke seams. I feel kind of formal in it, because it's a little dressy (even though I tried to make it less so, with the zipper details) and because I don't wear structured jackets that often. Or maybe I should say I don't wear non-jean or non-moto jackets that often.
I would say I feel most fabulous in fairly sleek dresses with heels--and when I wear them, it's usually an occasion. I don't do it often.

You ladies who have posted pix in this thread aren't messing around--YLSF (you look super fabulous)!

I used to wear more showstopping pieces in the past when I had a dressier lifestyle in a dressier region of the country. I still have some that I'd be happy to trot out where appropriate (including a stud-trimmed sheath similar to yours, Sharan).

I suppose the last such item I wore was something I've had for decades, a vintage velvet shawl-collared jacket with marabou feather cuffs, to Fashion Week here in the fall. They took our pictures...but never posted them.

Last December I bought a black, 3/4 sleeve alpaca coat with a fur collar that is one of my favorite pieces ever. While probably not traditionally flattering, the style is rather dramatic and I just feel fab in it. It's the first piece that when I bought it, I actually could envision keeping it forever.

Oh now I miss my strapless jumpsuit which Lilypup accidentally destroyed. Somehow snagged a thread. I have a replacement ready to go almost, but it needs hemming.

I love this thread. Even if you don't post pictures I love the descriptions. I can do my own visual. I think a show stopper is something you feel fab in. I could just as well rock a tee and jeans my favorite and be like stop the presses who is that?

This has been so much fun to read. Even without pictures, I can visualize you feeling fab in your most beloved items. I noticed many of the showstopper items were boots, jackets and coats. I guess once the weather cools we can see more pictures of these items!

I think I have quite a few showstoppers but my favorite are dresses. I love a great sheath dress. I feel fab wearing them. I never get tired of them. They are my most flattering look, and I have a great collection of dressy sheaths that makes me happy.

Sheath dresses in the most- they tend to flatter my figure the best. I also have a bright pink jacket that attracts attention as well as a green leather jacket. I love wearing a show stopper!!
