DD and I went shopping. She is always a good help since she's a designer/photographer, with a very good eye for fashion.

I'd thought I would look for jackets, tunic tops, a denim jacket, shoes, maybe a skirt.

I ended up with more tops (though no tunic length were to be found) than I thought I wanted, and only one jacket, but when I got home, realized with the new tops, I can give a fresh look to the nice jackets I already have! So I had fun shopping the closet to make some outfits. I think I got some really useful and good quality items.

I got 1 skirt, 1 jacket, 2 cardigans, 3 sweater tops, 1 blouse and 1 pr. of shoes. The jacket and blouse are from New York & CO., the sweater tops, cardigans and skirt are Ann Taylor.

'scuse the messy hair and bare feet. I'd just showered after running and decided to try on the new clothes before getting dressed for supper.

#1 - dark chambray jacket, paired here with black slacks and old knit top which almost went out with the last donation bag. I'm glad it was still hanging in the front "decision zone" of the closet.

#2-3 - raspberry paisley voile blouse, paired with a dark red belt, and with my velveteen pinstripe blazer. This is the blouse DD picked to go with the chambray jacket, but I felt it was maybe overboard on ruffles putting them together.

#4 - vneck shortsleeve sweater with teal cardigan. Not sure I will actually pair these, but it makes an interesting color combo maybe? I also got a nice rosy coral pink shortsleeve sweater, too.

#5-6 - for this outfit, I overrode DD's advice. She does not like print sweaters. I generally do not care for beige and black on me, but I really like this. Hopefully a couple of you will agree. Print sweater, and small dobby weave skirt with (cheapie vinyl) matching belt. The black cardigan is just like the teal one. But such a versatile shape and fit, and I will wear the heck out of these for work outfits.

I should've put on my new shoes but it seemed like a lot of work. So...

Should I return any of these items? Or any other comments or advice is always welcome. Thanks for your time!

Glad you saved the top; it looks made for the new jacket.

Do you have a lighter colour skirt or trousers to try with the voile blouse? In the pics (which may distort) the black is feeling a bit heavy to me.

I like the print sweater, too. I think it works in part because the overall impression (in the pic, at least) is less beige and black than taupe/grey. I imagine you'll get a lot of wear from it.

Suz, I have gray pants, too. Maybe that would work. Still with the black blazer? I'll give it a try.

I like #1 and 4. The print in the sweater in 5 and 6 does not speak to me but that's just my preference.

I love the top in #1---glad you did not get rid of it as it's great in this combo! I also like the blouse on you in #5-6. I'm not usually a fan of beige/black either, but in this combination I think they look quite vibrant, not dulling as can sometimes be the case. I think they look nice with your coloring.

2, 4, and 6 are my favorites! I do like the jacket in 1, but maybe a dash of color somewhere in the outfit? Just being picky here, because the raspberry top looks so nice in comparison. I'm glad you overrode DD for 5-6, because it is very flattering.

Especially like 1, 4 & 6 is my favorite, so polished and put together.I agree with Suz that the red blouse might look better with a different color pant/jacket. You look beautiful in teal BTW.

Cjh, have you thought about updating the style of your specs? I noticed that you wear them all the time like I do. You might like to consider the investment. After all - they are your number #1 most important accessory.

I would agree with DD on the top. For me it is just a 7 while everything else is a 10, but that's just me.
Love the teal/olive combination and think the paisley blouse would look good with the chambray jacket.
Your shopping expedition was a resounding success.

The beige/black sweater is my favorite of the lot! I like the jacket but is it a little too big in the shoulder/arm area? I guess if no one else sees that, it might just be me.

Following Angie's lead, I think some colored glasses frames would be a great way to add a dash of color to your outfits - perhaps a deep raspberry shade?

I think you got lots of great pieces, love #1, 4,5 and 6. I am a print girl esp, tops I really like this one it is flattering and the colors are good for you. Love the color combo in #4!!

Thanks to all for your comments and compliments! I am sort of surprised so many are in favor of the teal and olive, though I thought it might work. Next week I have a conference out of town, so will be sure to wear most of my new items! I wonder how the chambray jacket would look with the dobby (b&w) skirt? I'd have to be careful about what top to wear, I think. Any suggestions?

Angie, yes, I have thought of new glasses. I have had these for over two years (when the wider side pieces first started coming out - around here anyway) and am due for a new eye exam this fall. They are very comfy, and I orig. liked the fact that they are fairly neutral and don't seem to compete with other accessories, since I do favor necklaces and scarves. But I've always thought they are a bit wide for my face. Definitely will consider different styles when I get my appointment, as I do like to be on top of fashion in the eyewear dept.
