I never even considered not wearing my engagement ring and substituting it with another, so Angie's blog post got me thinking. Since I've been married (7 years), I've always thought of the wedding ring and engagement ring as a unit.
My engagement ring is a sapphire (yay, team sapphire!) with small diamonds in a gold setting on either side, but the main part of the ring is platinum. I actually like that it's mixed metals even though I'm generally a silvertone person. The wedding band itself is as simple as it gets - very plain white gold.
Sadly, the sapphire in my engagement ring has a chip in it -- you can probably see it in the photo, even though at many angles it's not obvious. I have no idea how or when it happened -- it's been there since before we married! I always feel a little bad about it, and I think that someday my husband will probably treat me to a new ring. He talks about it sometimes.
The other picture is a platinum and diamond ring passed down from my mom's great aunt, and my mom gave it to me when I graduated from college. I absolutely love it -- it's not a great picture, but you get a hint of the fine filigree setting. I wear it on my right hand sometimes, but sometimes I'd really like to wear it on my left with my wedding band because I usually reserve my right hand for my bold statement rings. I guess there's nothing stopping me from doing that, huh?
