Should this maxi dress be sent to the donations bin?

I found this dress in my closet - it is at least 10 years old, from the now-disappered Freeport Studio division of LLBean. The quality and fabric is great but I have never realized how overwhelming this length and style was on me until I took these pictures. What do you think - donate, keep, alter?

I say donate - unless you want to mess with shortening it - but I think it looks pretty shapeless and am not sure that that would do the trick! I love the color - gorgeous - but you know, its not really a maxi dress (I don't think!) because it isn't full length - its like it can't make up its mind. I guess it depends on if this dress (altered) would fill a hole in your wardrobe!

I am voting donate... as a maxi dress lover, I feel like it needs to be full length to make a statement.

I agree with Marley--donate, unless you can see it filling a real hole in your wardrobe if you altered it in some way. For example, you could cut off the bottom part and make a gathered-waist skirt (just below the knee, maybe), if you needed one in that color. Or you could cut off the bottom and create a top, if that's something you'd wear.
Personally I don't feel bad donating something that I've held onto for that long; I feel I've probably gotten my money's worth out of it, and maybe someone else can get some more good out of it.

Donate! Or...if the fabric is good quality and you sew, since there's a lot of it you could cut it up and make something else with it.

I don't think it's your best look "as is" however, if the fabric is great, it may be worth considering alterations (shorter dress, or cut down to a skirt - both easy options). How sentimental are you and how much do you love it?

Looks like this is a unanimous decision! I haven't really worn it for a few years but I always have trouble letting go of an item of clothing that is still in good condition. I do not sew (beyond simple hemming etc.) so it's unlikely I can completely re-do the dress. Thanks!
