I hope it works Una. I think it shows styling potential.
As someone who has purchased from many flash sales sites over the past few years...
- Gilt is usually priced higher than the others. Case in point -- I just got a pair of wedge booties from Ash on Rue for $129; they were selling the same pair a few weeks later, but in few color choices, on Gilt for $159.
- There is so much cr*p on these sites, it gets tiresome wading through it but every once in a while there are some high-quality bargains. I got a Dolce & Gabanna silk shirt and just ordered Frette sheets from Ideeli.
- I find the best deal is on shoes and some premium denim.
- Beware of merchandise produced just for the discount channel. A lot of the stuff on these sites is the same stuff that has been made exclusively for Loehmans, Marshalls etc. This may have a fancy brand name like Hanky Panky but the actual merchandise quality is not up to par.
- If I see something I like, I almost always search for it first to see if it really is a good deal. There are items that are the same price on Amazon, for example, but there is no deadline to purchase.
I had a credit on Gilt for 9 months and finally gave in and just purchased some jewelry that I am saving to give as gifts. I delete most of their daily emails but sometimes I enjoy browsing, so I haven't unsubscribed yet.
