Should I take my BF to Europe? Or would that be too awkward?

After all, DH will be along, too ; ).

OK, seriously, along with Sveta and Suz, I am finalizing my travel capsule and am wondering whether to bring my BF jeans along with my skinny/straights.

(ETA: We will be in northern England for a week, London for 2 days, Paris for a day, and rural Provence for a week)

PROS: they are comfie, they make my feel fab, and they feel very me.

CONS: they are very casual, and I am ONLY bringing 12-hour foot wear, so I can't dress them up with heeled booties. I've shown them below with the only foot wear options - my Seibel sneakers and my Frye Carson shorties. I will NOT be bringing heeled booties, because all our time will be spent traipsing around to sites with kids and MIL or FIL in tow. (I am also bringing knee high boots to wear with skinnies and a skirt).

Here are some options with the tops I'm considering. Note that they're riding a bit high because my leopard belt is too small for BF jeans (aaargh...now I know to buy bigger belts for this style).

Hey Sara,

Fun trip! I would bring them because they make you feel fab and they are comfy. If nothing else, they will be good to change into at the end of the day, but I think they will look great on the streets.

I think they look dressier with the boots, but I would unroll the jeans.

I like them best in #12; the gap between the boot and the rolled up jean bothers me.

I am not sure where you are going in Europe, but these feel very casual to me. Parts of Europe are far more formal than we are.

I think it depends on where you want to go and the attractions you are going to see. If Paris is on the agenda, I would use this space to pack some dressy and comfy ponte knit trousers.

You nailed the travel capsule. I think all of these are fab and I love the footwear! I love the Carson's with the rolled and unrolled jeans. The sneaks are awesome and you look so stylish! I hope to look this fab when I travel! LOVE! (I haven't been to Europe in over 10 years but this looks better than anything I remember wearing.)

Oh, Sarah....how can our husbands put up with our BFs??

I actually like these on you a lot, but I prefer them unrolled with the boots. For what you will be doing, they seem like a really good option. LOVE #12 and would equally love 3, 4, and 7 with them unrolled.

I like them rolled with the sneaks and a lighter T if the days are warmer.

So all in all, i think they are a good choice assuming you have more formal options as well for times when you might need that.

I think the play so nicely with others it would be a shame to leave them home. Also, from what a few others have posted street style in Europe is getting more casual. The flat booties in #12 are perfection and I love them rolled with the seibels and the green stripe sweater.

I think they could work, but I like them best when the outfit is a little dressier such as 7/8, 9, and 12. The black turtleneck, the scarf, the blazer, these items dress them up a bit and make them look stylish and "intentional" rather than possibly risking an "overly casual American" look (5 and 11 seem a little risky to me).

Oooh! Yes Boyfriend! Take the boyfriend! The black cashmere sweater is just fabulous and I love how the scarf keeps you warm and dresses it up if you want to wear it.

What Suz and Jules said. Jeans unrolled with boots, rolled with sneaks. The blazer looks strike the right note of casual chic.

It depends on what you are going for entirely. If you are looking to go more urban, as in Eurochic, I am loving them best unrolled like in #12. The others are coming across as too lumberjack to me. I like the idea of bringing them, definitely. You should!

I think the rolled up version and booties could look much more urban, a la Gwen here. You need a boot that lays more flat against your calf. I am not a big fan of the rolled up version with sneakers, I just think it looks too " American tourist vacationing in Europe" to me, but then again, it depends on what you are going for.

Worst case scenario, you bring them, and never get around to wearing them. Isn't that better than arriving in Europe and wishing you had packed them?

I think they will be just fine here in northern England, although I also prefer them unrolled with the booties.

I like #12, unrolled best. With the rolled hem and the sneakers these look too "American" tourist to me. I think ponte trousers pack small and would work well for some sections of Europe (Paris, Provence). In London, last time I was there it was very trendy so the boots and jeans look may just work. At the very least, make them your plane outfit. I always wear an outfit specifically for traveling days, this way you can still wear your jeans even if you don't end up wearing them when you are touring the sights.

I like them with the slightly dressier outfits such as #7 and #9. As others have mentioned, they look more intentional that way. I also prefer the jeans unrolled over the boots.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE each and every outfit where you've paired these with your tennies. Looks fantastic! I am going to try this out now, I have been shy about this style because I'm petite but I know you are too and it totally works on you!

As for pairing the bfs with the cowboy boots, I like them unrolled and over the boots. Something about the shape and shaft height of the boot doesn't work as well with the rolled bfs (but that's just to *me*), but they work great unrolled.

ETA -- on looking like an American tourist, insert "chic" after American and you get the idea. Trust me, you look better than many of the Europeans who come through our town during tourist season.

Well, this is such an interesting thread! There seems to be agreement that "unrolled" over the boots is a good option. It's funny, I had a whole series of pics with my OTHER pair of BF jeans (sized up JCrew matchsticks) that work best unrolled, but switched to these pics with the GAPs to try the rolled looks. Anyway, if I decide to do both rolled and unrolled, I may have to bring two BFs - that could get really complicated ; ).

In contrast, the "rolled with tennies" looks are quite polarizing - interesting! (Denise - I'm glad I've inspired you to try some new BF looks. I'm rather fond of it myself).

I agree with Denise, I love all of these outfits and I think you will look perfectly fine! There are a lot of unstylish Europeans too and you look so stylish in all of your outfits. If they are comfortable and make you feel great then bring them.

Ah, the burning question of bringing BF to Europe! I hear you, Sarah...
As others I like them unrolled with the boots. Have you tried to tuck them into the boots - that may work too. I think they may work well with dressier top part for casual activities...but then again I am not sure I am taking mine at this point...

Given your itinerary these look ideal if you have a dressier option for some days.

I am struggling with same issue as we are going on a trip in March with two days in Rome and then cruise to southern Med with lots of sightseeing at Pompeii, Crete, Malta, Turkey etc. It's the footwear that is so hard to get the combo of comfy and stylish.

My hubby will wear crepe soled brogues or McAllister boots and look all hipster and I'll look like middle aged frump. ;(

LOVE them in 6, 7, 9, and 12! Not a huge fan with the cowboy boots, as I think the roll competes too much with the wide shaft of the boot. I think you should definitely bring them - they are so comfy for walking, plus they give ventilation when you are hot and easy to layer tights under if it gets suddenly cold.
