Should I purchase this dress?

Hi all! I was at a consignment shop last night, and tried this little dress on, but I'm not sure it's appropriate. Something tells me this is just a tad too young for my over 45 self. I'm wearing black opaque tights with it - would I need to wear leggings? And if so, is this a summer dress, or could I wear it in the winter? How about skinny jeans - I have some black ones that might work. What kind of footwear? I don't wear flats. I'm wearing black slouchy boots here.

I thought it was cute, but something is just telling me maybe not age-appropriate? What are your thoughts?

I think the reason you are getting the age-inappropriate vibe is it is a very junior-style dress. I try to avoid stereotyping and categorizing clothing by age group, but if someone pressed me to describe a juniors' dress, I would say short dress made of a polyester fabric with a bold print and black banding. There are so many juniors' dresses like this that the association is almost subconscious.

I would wear it only in summer with leggings and for very casual chores.
You seem like you have a great figure that deserves better showcasing.

Our inner voices are right more often than not, aren't they? You definitely have the figure to wear that dress, but I think it's a dress made for a teenager.

I feel sure that you will be able to find a dress that is more elegant while still making the most of your fabulous shape.

The dress is very striking on you. I wouldn't let the so called "junior styling" get in the way of enjoying it. Your idea of wearing skinny jeans with it would make it even better. Don't limit yourself to skinnies, either, try some bootcuts, and some faded or even distressed jeans. The boots in the picture are perfect and would also go well when you add jeans. Try it on again with the jeans and let us see.

I think that your instincts are right. I vote pass on the dress. Something that does lovely you justice is a much better idea

this dress actually looks a bit small on you. I'm sure it fits, but something about the cut and style makes me think "too small" I think you can safely let this one pass you by.

The dress looks great on your great figure but the length and quality screams teeny bopper. Sorry, pass on this dress.

Thanks everyone for the compliments and the advice. I think citygirldc nailed it with "teeny bopper". I'm glad I listened to my instinct and didn't buy it, and I'm even more glad I posted it so you gals can validate my instincts! I'll take a pass on this one!

I think the dress is a good starting point for finding another similar dress with a less "junior" vibe. If the dress has some sleeves, or was just a tad longer, a

(Sorry, hit the post button before I was done...)

...and even if the dress had longer sleeves, was a bit longer (still to wear over leggings,) and had less high contrast with the black banding, it would look more sophisticated and not so "immature."
I say pass this one on but keep an eye out for this shape of dress.

It's that underboob strip of fabric that makes it look dated to me. Even if it wasn't, I don't think I would want people looking at my underboob.... The fit is super though, if it was all one color it would be better.

I have to say this dress is a pass. While it fits, there is something about the print that screams junior to me. I think that you can find another dress that would be better suited to body and your style.

VERY cute dress! If you feel fab in in, wear it! I don't think there is a number where you have to stop wearing darling pieces.
