Should I order black Frye Veronica shortie boots from NAS?

OK, so I was not going to order anything from NAS, but...

they have the black Frye Veronica shortie (mid-calf) boots on sale. I have been meaning to replace my black DV mid-calf boots which are a very similar style for a while now - the soles are dead and I do not like them enough to pay to have them resoled. The black Fryes would be a direct replacement and if comfy would get worn a lot.

HOWEVER, I have been stalking the super cool bronze finished ones (photo 2) for a while. They are not on sale, and not part of NAS. They also might not be as versatile as black. On the other hand, bronze probably goes with everything too. Should I wait for the bronze to go on sale (if they ever do) or should I just bite the bullet and order the black ones?

I am a little confused because the black Fryes are so similar to the ones you say you don't like that much. How will the Freys be different? In any case when it comes to these decisions I find I usually end up happier following my heart over my head, so I would buy the bronze ones. Really cute outfit, by the way.

Oh, Scarlet, the reason why I don't like my current ones is that they are convertible so have a fold-over top that is extremely flappy when it is up. It looks OK, but is just annoying. I never, ever wear them folded down so there is no point to having them be convertible.

But I think you are all right. The bronze is much cooler, so I will wait for those. I have three other pairs of mid-calf boots anyway (black, brown, taupe) so it's not like I have a dire need for boots. Plus it will probably be september at least before it's not too hot for boots.

Mani, it's funny you mention the hair, as the dye job is terribly faded and out of date right now and it is more or less cognac. It does bookend my cognac boots though! It should be darker and more red when it's not 8 months old. =P PS - One reason I have my hair dyed is that it looks better with my favorite blues and greens that my natural black. =P

As you know, I love the bronze! I still have both colors in my cart from last year! In my opinion and based on your WIW's, I think the black would play better with your wardrobe. Of course, I can't really explain why except that I see you wearing lots of black and jewel tones--and I think the black boots will mesh better. You have a dramatic arty style like Jean but in a stronger palette.

This is tough... If you got the black ones, lots of people might ask you where your motorcycle is I never vote for black shoes, but these look similar to a classic motorcycle boot style. If you have seen the bronze and love love them...change it up this season...but wait for the sale...are you certain you will want to wear the bronze next season? The black is a kind of a classic...

Tough choice! Both are fab. I vote deciding by dartboard.

Still thinking about this... now I am leaning toward ordering the black ones. The reasons being:
1. The black, like many of you mentioned, is classic. And if I am going to buy fryes, I will be wearing them for years.
2. The black ones never go on sale, so the NAS price is great. Plus, I can always return them if I change my mind. (The bronze, if they do not sell out, will likely end up on big sale later on, so maybe I'll end up with both anyway.)
3. I am *very much* a black boot kind of girl. I have been playing around with other colors but time was when I wore black boots every single day, and I still think they go with everything I own.
4. I know the black leather is nice. The finish on some of Frye's trendier colors can sometimes be weird or a little cheap looking (like those weird dusty stonewashed ones, or the cracked white ones).

I think I will sleep on this and think about it some more in the morning.

Diana, I was looking at both of these boots in Nordstrom's today. The bronze ones do have a sort of odd finish, IMO. Not natural looking, if that makes sense? I was looking for this boot or similar in brown, but I didn't care for that finish so I didn't even try them on.

Perhaps you could order both and return one?

Cindy, were the bronze part of NAS? I did not see them online, and I can't get to Nordie's in person unfortunately. I cannot buy them at full price, must wait for a sale. Thanks for the review of the finish - I've not seen the bronze in person anywhere near me.

Diana, I'm sorry, I don't remember if they were a part of the sale. I looked at so many things today, and since I wasn't going to get them I didn't file away that piece of information. I was at the Seattle downtown store. I'm sure if you gave them a call and talked to someone in shoes they could tell you.

Diana, couldn't you buy both pairs of boots, try them on at home and then return them? At least that way you would know if the bronze boots are something you'd want to buy later or not. If they are, you return both. If they aren't, you return only the bronze and keep the black.

Black never normally goes on sale? Hm, I'm leaning toward the black, then. The black could look more classic and polished if you so wish, while the bronze have a distinctively aged/distressed look. Buying from Nordstrom, you can still return them later if you feel meh about them and still long for the bronze.

Diana,I hope you get to buy them. I vote black too. That type o boot is a necessity given our weather. I would look into them myself, if it wasn't that I have a total of four boots from Nordies waiting to be returned.

I ordered the black. Figure i can always return if I change my mind, since it'll be a while before it's not too hot to wear them anyway.

Yay to black! I have a pair of mid-calf engineers too and the black works the best I think. The bronze is unusual, but you might tire of it more quickly.

That's smart to get them while they are on sale and then you can decide once you try them.
