Should I keep this leather skirt or is it a "wardrobe orphan"

I've had this leather skirt for a few years now. It's hand made from Montreal, I loved the detail when I saw it, and I bought it, but have never really known how to wear it. So it has been a wardrobe orphan for a long time now.

It's definitely a mini skirt but it has a sort of "tail" in the back that at least provides some more modesty. I'm wondering if I'm too old to wear something this short (I'm 28 and it just passes the "fingertip test", it's about 1" longer than my fingertips).

My other problem is, I have a hard time deciding when to wear it. Is it more appropriate for summer? I feel like leather is not, but it's mini, so more leg showing. Or winter? I can pair it with tights maybe?

Any suggestions are welcome. I had to pair it with flats in the photos, though I think it will look good with booties when I finally get a pair. Excuse the second pic...it's blurry...bad husband.

I don't think it's too young for you, and I like the cut and shape. If I were anywhere close to your age I'd be wearing it all the time.

I wear it with tights. I have a black leather fronted dress that's a similar length, more a-line though. I wear it with grey OTK socks and navy suede slouchy boots.

As a 40+ with a new leather skirt not too much longer than this one, I say keep and wear the heck out of it right now while leather is a big trend! If unsure or uncomfortable about the length, by all means add tights or hose or leggings. Maybe some flat boots and a chunky sweater to downplay the 'sexy' factor.

Wear with tights and ankle booties or mid-calf boots. If modesty/de-bombshelling is your concern, make sure the tights are thick and plain. You could wear almost anything on top from a denim shirt to sequins. I think of leather as fall into winter. But wear it as leather seems to be trending in. Plus, you have nice legs and knees.

You are so NOT too old to wear this! It's adorable and you look great in it. I think you look good in both photos, tights and booties or flats would be my preference.

Well I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that the skirt is a keeper. I guess it was all in my head that it was maybe not age or season appropriate. I guess this means I will need some booties too, to make it more versatile! Lol! Hubby also assures me it's a keeper, but I felt like his opinion was not based on fashion or wearability, haha...men...

Heyyy nice to see you! Glad you're keeping the skirt, I think you could certainly wear both in summer and in fall/winter with hosiery. Would work with flats, pumps, boots, and booties (add hosiery as seasonally appropriate). Lots of options really!

I agree the skirt looks amazing on you, both ways you've styled it here! And I love the details on it. I have a couple of short dresses that I was uncomfortable wearing as dresses, so I wore them like long tunics with leggings, and now I've gotten to the point where I feel comfortable in them with tights. I could see this skirt over leggings with flats, if you feel like a more modest approach some days.

This would look great with tights and booties (or boots). Really pretty blue top in 1. The skirt actually suggests white and grey to me as natural pairings and for some reason reminded me of this old Sartorialist post that I always liked, which may be too scruffy for you--don't know how you roll

I think the skirt is a keeper, and I think I'll try to wear it outside my house today! Not sure how I'll style it yet, it will have to be with tights though, it's cold. I have tall, flat boots, but I though that might be too "sexy" and also too much leather???

Thanks...you're right it is different than the standard leather skirt. I have been ruthless with cleaning all the crap out of my wardrobe, but could just never get rid of this even though I didn't wear it. I'm glad I kept it, time to wear it!
