A leather jacket contender. It's a bit more funky, but I'm really drawn to it. Should I go out on a limb and give it a whirl or keep with more sedate, possibly more versatile styles? I can always return, but I'm loathe to plunk down a few hundred dollars even with the security of returning. I don't really want to experiment by mail lol. Could this nudge my style direction or am I kidding myself??

IMHO there are few and far-between items, of which this is an example, that can become a signature piece. When this happens it goes beyond trendy and becomes something you love forever regardless of how trends change.
But you have to try in order to find out - you will know instantly but only in the flesh.

I would go for it, for sure! It's beautiful and unique. But it also has the advantage to be in neutral shades, which will accessorize easily with many pieces. And it would look fantastic on you.

Mo, this is a very fierce, cool and gorgeous statement jacket. I would not be able to wear that stand-up collar, but I'm sure you can. It will be a bit of a style nudge - you would rock it, though.

I've recently learned that there are few occasions when it's suitable for me to wear leather jackets in terms of weather and opportunity (although I am going to find a way!). How often do you find yourself saying, "If only I had a neutral statement leather jacket...."? Can you put together some outfits that need this to complete them?

My only doubt is if it is open-front or if it in fact fastens. I can't deal with jackets that don't fasten. But if you can, go for it!

I vote go for it! I actually think it will be very versatile, what with the neutral coloring and strong, simple lines. Plus, since it happens to be both light colored and leather, you could wear it year round, temperatures permitting. Yes, the details are interesting and super cool, but they are not overpowering.

Spanner. I think it looks fussy. Lots of lines, the collar, the back.....is that CLOTH in the back? To me, it's all over the place.

For your first leather jacket, I'd go for a more classic jacket that you'll wear everywhere. I'm thinking you'll get a lot of wear out of of a leather jacket in your mild climate.

I"m not sure what kind of classic for you.....black with a lot of zippers? Or are you drawn to cream?

Una, you've got my number with those first two! The Vince paper draped leather jacket is what started all of this for me about a year ago. A traditional moto with buckle belt and lots of zippers, oddly, isn't me. I love me a zipper, but something about the moto is overkill to me. I would wear this as a more statement completer piece. Over dresses just as often as over tops and jeans. IK, there is no closure, that's true. And the standup collar would be a change for me, but I'm kinda ready for a nudge. Honestly, my hair covers most collar details 90% of the time. Same goes for some of the knit detail in back. I think I will give it a whirl, and if I return I guess I'll consider it a $15 try on fee lol!

I am agreeing with Isis. I like the light color, actually, but do not love the back.

Interesting . . . no love for the back detail. I would have to really work at getting my hair out of the way for it to be on display. Funny, how many tops with interesting back detail have gotten lost on me that way.

I agree, the back is a little odd - the leather seems to be pulling somewhat but maybe that smoothes out once it is on. The front view is so smart and interesting, but the back detail looks a bit tricked out to me. MIght be worth a try if you really love it!

Mo, my concern is that your hair would compete with all the interesting detail here. The stand up collar is challenging unless you wear your hair short or up. And the back detail would be partly hidden, too.

I know, Suz - I thought about that. Maybe it will let the details 'peek out' here and there with its movement. And then again, maybe I can use it to diffuse some of the crazier back detail. Not sure - won't know until I try! I do LOVE the color of this, beyond any details.

I really like this, I think the back and details are what makes it interesting. Your hair might cover a bit, but then when it moves you get a peek of the fun details. I think it is unique and I love the color. Glad you are giving it a shot - you really just can't tell for sure until you try it on.

There are so many shades of grey that's they often don't go together even when neutrals. If you can order the rest of the outfit now you might be glad to have pieces that will work together.

I actually really like - no...LOVE...this jacket and the back detail. I think it could absolutely become a signature piece. My only caution would be make sure you have at least 3-4 ways/outfits to wear it with to make your money worth while. You'll never know 'till you try!

I love this and think the back detail and side panels are especially great. Are those darker panels knit? If so, I love it even more. Those knit details make this a very versatile, highly comfortable indoor jacket, much more than leather without. It gives and it breathes. I have a Bod & Christensen leather jacket with these arm knit panels, and it really makes them so easy to wear indoors and to look fitted and sleek over layers or without. It is my favorite jacket.

Well, the point may be moot. The current bid is $20 over what I was prepared to pay. This is a real test of my purchase limits . . . and part of me says think of the cost per wear over years but the other part says you can't afford it. Argh.

I put in a bid at $180 but when it went from there I bowed out. $207 out the door. In all honestly, a leather jacket is a want, not a need. One will come, as you know!

The upshot is instead I can buy 3 or 4 short sleeved tops that I realize just today I actually need
