Should I duplicate my Breton?

Last October I bought a navy/cream Breton by Petit Bateau in Paris which I have worn frequently all winter. It is an all season garment, and I love it (see #1). I do have a couple of other striped tees, but they are a lot thinner, have a different neckline (scoop), and can't be layered under (see an example in #2).

Now Petit Bateau offers a lighter version of their classic Breton in white and ocean blue (see #3). It is the same quality as my favorite cotton sweater. I think it looks perfect.

What should I do? Will I be wasting my money, or is it reasonable to get this version, too? I know that I'm going to wear it a lot, and I like the idea of a lighter version for S/S. Or am I just rationalizing here?

Your thoughts on this are highly appreciated.

Totally get it. I am all for duplicating when you know something works so well. I have recently struck up a love affair with these striped shirts.

Your description makes it sound like it's going to be a workhorse so, no, I don't think this sounds like rationalizing. Duplicate to remove wardrobe bottlenecks, remember?

If it's not a bottleneck, then I would take a harder look at the lightweight tees it would replace. Do you sometimes avoid wearing them because it doesn't make you feel fab? It sounds like they're hard to work with, and this will not be?

I know you love your breton so I say go for it! I have a heavier one from Boden as well and love it when the weather is cooler but I've just ordered a short sleeve version for summer. If you know you're going to use it then it will be money well spent.

Yay! I think I lead you on a little, but I'm glad to see that you seem to agree that this is a reasonable duplication.

Hedgiehog, in my climate, a heavier cotton sweater is very summer appropriate. I actually wear wool sweaters in July/August too, sometimes. So yes, I think it will get worn.

Charmian, the thinner ones are typically a result of me trying to shop around a more expensive item. When will I ever learn? They do not have as good fit, and I prefer a boatneck to the scoop. However, they are handy for layering purposes, so not a total waste.

Elisabeth, I haven't seen it yet, but I trust that the color is as good as it seems. I know the quality is remarkable.

Yes, duplicate -- it's a known item, in a colour way suited for S/S!

My only reservation would be how much it resembles, or not, tee shirt in terms of texture and clinginess. Other than that, for something that works so well for you and that you wear so well, it's a no brainer. Plus, the stripes are classic and you are modern classic, so the maths is simple.

Knowing how much you have worn your other one, I would say definitely duplicate.

I've ordered it now, and with Ornella's help it will find its way to me. As a non-EU member, I can't order from that company, but my YLF helpers solve such annoyances

Glad to hear you decided to order it, Ingunn. I'm a huge fan of stripes myself, and I know from experience that it's incredibly handy to have more than one heavier-weight striped top in circulation. And you love your current Breton top to pieces, so I think this is a very worthwhile investment.
