Should I buy this leather jacket?

So, I happened to be by Nordies at lunch and saw this jacket which has been on and off my wishlist several times over the last couple weeks as I've been searching for a leather jacket:

This jacket is my ideal (classic moto style, black, leather, cropped):

However at nearly $2k there is no WAY I am going to buy it.

The first jacket has some pros - it's cropped and it did look cute on me, and I did like the quilted sleeves, and the breast pockets were not the issue I thought they be on my large bosom.

The cons are that it's not the classic style I had wanted. It has a straight zip rather than asymetical.

So, should I wait to find the perfect one, or do you think I should go for this Hinge one?

personally, i really like the first one but i see how it's not exactly what you want. i think i'd wait...

If you don't need a leather jacket right now, I'd wait. I'm sure you will be able to find something that is closer in styling to your dream jacket, maybe not this year, but perhaps next year or at a vintage shop.

Oh, I really like the Hinge jacket but I don't think it has the same vibe as a moto jacket. If it were me I'd wait. : (

I suppose it depends on a couple of things. I LOVE the first jacket and think I could see it working with your wardrobe, however it is very different to the one you really want. If you only like the first one and can walk away from it, then I would wait until you find 'the one', if not then buy and enjoy and you may find yourself with two leather jackets (very different stylings) in the near future.

Thanks. I checked inventory and there are 144 large's in stock...so I guess I have a little time to decide, anyway!

The one you're considering has a very Chanel-esque vibe. How did it look on?
Have you ever tried on one in the style of your dream jacket to see how it looks?
The reason I ask is I always thought I wanted an asymetrical zipped jacket and when it came time to buy, it wasn't nearly as flattering on me as the symetrical one was.

I actually already have a couple asymetrical zip items (faux suede/shearling vest and another, dressier leather jacket) and I like them. I did try the Hinge one on in the store and it looked pretty cute on me and the Large fit very well.

Angie, I would wear it as a blazer now, so I think it would be a four season item for me.

I love the Balmain but it looks pretty iconic, like if you hold out, the same style will pop up about $1000 cheaper in the spring. The levi's jacket if awesome too.

the levis jacket i think would be a better sub. for the one you love. and def. a price you can more easily swallow.

IMHO, the trouve is more unique and interesting, whereas the UO/Balmain style is, as Rita said, very iconic. I bet if you lurk on ebay a while you could pick one up for $50-$80. I know you love that style, though... love vs. unique design is a very tough call in my book. :T

The Wang jacket is gorgeously styled. Suede generally doesn't stay nice looking as long as leather does, though.

To me, those two jackets have very different vibes.

I found a fairly classic black motorcyle-ish jacket last year that's similar to your 2nd one (great price, on Zappos) and I love it. I can wear it with anything. I agree that you'll be able to find one, in that style, in just about any price point you're comfortable with.

The first one is a totally different style and more of a one-off. I think I'd rather own the second, motorcyle-ish style first, then maybe add another one as budget allows, but it all depends on your own personal style! You really can't go wrong with a great black leather jacket.

I think you should hold out for the classic style you love and I think that style would look awesome on you. I bought one similar at NAS a couple of years ago for under $200.
Do you have a leather jacket? I find that they are kind of cold to the touch here in the PNW. I wouldn't spend a bunch of money for one and I'd make sure it was my dream leather jacket before I splurged. I'm speaking from experience here, unfortunately.

Agreed with the others that the two have such different vibes, I could easily see incorporating both in your wardrobe (yes, this coming from someone who owns multiple black leather jackets). I do like the first jacket but can see how it might ultimately be unsatisfying if you really have your heart set on the moto style.

There are a LOT of nice classic black moto jackets out there in the world, and at a variety of price points. I just picked up a Michael Kors one at Nordstrom Rack to replace one of my old black leather jackets that now don't fit me quite right. If you can only justify one right now, and you really want that iconic look, I say wait and keep looking.

I actually bought the Trouve jacket. I saw it pop up online and put it on order as soon as I could. I love it.
But it's my style and exactly what I've been looking for.

Your "dream jacket" is quite dissimilar from the Trouve.

The jacket you are considering look really fun and cool! If you don't love it, though, I'd hold out for one that really excites you. I'm sure there are classic moto jackets for less than $2000.

Thanks all. I am going to check the Rack and keep my eyes peeled. I do want something that is high quality, but it also needs to be somewhat cropped or it won't look right on em.

San, I do have a beige/brown leather jacket that I also got on NAS a few years ago...I wear them as blazers for the most part.

Oh, how I love that Trouve jacket. It's been on my wish list for a while now. But like others have said, it's very different from your fantasy jacket so I'd keep looking:)
