Should I buy these boots?

I'm in the market for boots (you know this). I'm wondering if this pair might be a good choice:

(I'm thinking black, even though I also want a pair of brown boots - the brown version looks too red to me)

Possible strikes against them:

My calves are narrow - 13.5 inches naked, usually around 14" with skinnies - these have a 14.5" calf - will they be gaping? I'd probably normally wear them with pants - even though I do wear skirts in the summers.

My ideal boots would look like they're good for working in the dirt and mud and such - I don't especially want to work in them, but I like the vibe of a boot that isn't just for show, but works. I also want them just a little RATE. Do these fill that spot?

I have never tried Miz Mooz, but I have heard they are comfortable and well made. I like them! No advice on the gaping issue, I am afraid.

I have several pairs of MM. I find the shaft height to be equally, if not more important for proper boot fit. I don't think gaping will be an issue based on the above measurements as long as the shaft is not too tall for your leg. I'm a little over 5'3" and find I need a boot shaft height around 13.5 to 14". My calf circumference is about the same as yours (at the widest part.) I'd make sure the height is right for you before ordering--great riding boot. I like them for your style!

I think amiable is pretty tall, so she should be fine for shaft height (I hope!). I am saving my pennies for another pair of Fryes, I think.

Thank you, and yes, I'm 5'9", my knee bends at 17.5 inches from my heel. So the shaft height is probably fine for me.

Ceit - as much as I like Fryes - they all seem to have at least 15" calves. And I'd have to save for another several months to get them

The Phillip harness tall, Melissa button back zip....just sayin' Oh I know, I have a lot of saving ahead of me. Amazon sometimes has great sales on Fryes.

Those are all great boots Ceit - Zappos lists the two tall ones as having a 15" calf circumference.

You do have some good reasons to save up!

Weird -- on Frye's site they have them smaller, 14", and the Phillip Harness Tall is 13". Maybe it scales on size.

I think these would be a great choice. They have some interesting details, but not overdone. And I like the sole - sturdy, but not so rugged that they will look out of place with a skirt. Good pick!

Those are good looking boots.

I think the only way to know is try them on, re. fit. I have a hard time with gaping at the top part of the calf. Boots rarely top off, for me, at the widest part of my calf.

Ceit - I just looked. Frye measures size 6, Zappos measures size 8.5 - that probably accounts for the difference in calf circumferences.

But since I wear a 9, that makes them over an inch and a half wider than my calves

They look really good, and I have heard great things about Miz Mooz. I like that they have some interest but not overdone.

If you order through Amazon itself (not one of the stores that sells through Amazon) they have free returns as well as free shipping. I say get them and try them!

I thought about ordering that pair but the shaft is a little too high. I have a pair of brown MM and really like them. They have held up well and are very comfortable.

Fit well with the vibe you are going for. These have elastic & buckles at the back shouldn't that help with any gape?

Hey, amiable. I did send you some PMs but thought I'd quickly add one or two points. My calves are a bit wider (15 and 15.5) but I think the width would work well for you and there should not be much gaping.

Also a technicality...I didn't notice right away. These are similar to my boot, very similar, but mine are Kacy and this is Kelsey. I have only one buckle in the back while your boot has two. Almost the same, though. I'd strongly vouch for them.

Thank Mochi - also for the PM. I think I'll pull the trigger tonight. I love the gray, but considering that I don't have a usable pair of black (and don't like my brown), I think I have to get those first

Ooh, but if I order a half-size down (like you suggested, Mochi), all the colors are available. Decisions, decisions....

I should stick with the black, I think. Any dissenters want to convince me that brown or gray is a more serious wardrobe hole? (The brown here looks weirdly red though)
