Should I buy...

I went browsing the other day, just for something to distract me from life. I didn't buy anything, just tried on. I am tempted to go back for the jersey in #1 - I think I could get some wear out of this in autumn and winter coming up. #2 is very pretty, but I'm not sure where I would wear it...

Always nice to hear feedback though for future purchases!

I'm not sure about either item. Do they fill a wardrobe hole or have you been searching for the item for awhile? I hesitate to suggest you buy something if it's not something you really need, especially when using shopping as a distraction from life. That seems to be when I make the most mistakes.

I say no if you can't identify what role they'd play in your wardrobe. I did notice both were in a soft jade green color. It looks fantastic on you! Maybe identify a more useful piece and look for it in that color?

I think there is nothing wrong with buying a piece or 2 that we love, just for pleasure, buy buy only if you love, if you are not sure leave it!
The color is lovely and the top it has a lot to do with your style!

I have so many holes in my wardrobe I don't quite know where to start, but I know that I want things that are versatile. The jersey is that. The dress is not. Not for my lifestyle anyway.

It may be difficult for you (it was for me), but I made myself sit down and write out what I had in wardrobe. From there I tried to figure exactly what I need to take me from where I am now to where I want to be style wise. I also wrote a list of descriptors of what I am and what I'm not. I've been working on saying no to several things (like the cute Fossil purse and matching wallet/clutch) because they don't fill a hole in my wardrobe.

I would definately pass on the dress. It is pretty, and fits you beautifull, but it is for a fantasy life. I know I have done that - bought something for a lifestyle that isn't mine and then never wear it.

Please don't take this wrong, but I don't think the jersey top is flattering on you. It doesn't drape well on you and adds emphasis where I don;t think you want it. I would pass on it as well. Remeber - it is the shirt not you. The shirt just isn't fab enough for your closet.

Hil, I am going to suggest passing on both this time. The dress while lovely is probably not useful for your lifestyle and I do think the detail on the shoulder could limit its wear.

I love the idea of the sweater, but in the photo at least, I am not finding this to be your most flattering colour, perhaps in real life it is different. The cut outs are interesting but I am in agreement with Thistle that the drape is not as it should be. You are too good for these peices, I would keep browsing

I agree with what Thistle said. It's not a great idea to buy for a fantasy lifestyle but I do think the style of the dress works for your body type. To my eye, the sweater isn't a flattering shape but might work better with a pant that has a slimmer leg. Glad you shared with us - I always find it helpful to get feedback from the forum.

The dress is a good style but sounds like you won't use it as much so you want to concentrate on other items.
The top is very RATE but doesn't really show you off, I think. Some kind of better fit. But perhaps you can use the idea of it to say, like this but with more of that? And identify more about what occasions and supporting pieces you'd wear with it. I find that useful to keep me from bringing home item after item until I get to the one that really hits all the right spots.

Thanks for all the feedback... mixed reviews on both the items. I am glad I purchased neither.

This is going to sound odd but the lace detail on the dress was what attracted me to it and put me off it at the same time. It it pretty, but I can't see myself wearing lace as a day thing, or even as a night thing necessarily!

As for the top, I know it's RATE, but I am a little RATE. I hear you all on the body flattery thing though. And the colour - well in real life, it was more grey than green, and I don't think grey is the best colour on me. So I guess it was better left at the store.

I am, even when I do my therapy browsing, going to keep on trying things that catch my eye and asking for feedback - this style thing is a steeper learning curve than I thought possible!
