Should finding white shorts be SO impossible?

I zipped out the the Mall to do some returns and tried on white bermudas at JCrew, BR, and Talbots, and they were all practically transparent. Why doesn't anybody make white pants/shorts that are opaque, for crying out loud?

Any luck finding decent white shorts?

Has anyone tried the Gallia Moda shorts at Nordie's?

I've been through that a lot recently too. What I want to know is why they don't use nude colored pocket linings so they don't glare through the fabric. That's the general practice amongst the sewists I know.

With nude colored undergarments and, the semi-transparent nature of the fabric wouldn't be so horrible.

You have nothing to loose - order and report!
I understand you are looking for not-denim shorts; otherwise you can check out Kut, they are usually pretty substantial. You also can buy cropped pants and shorten them.

I can't find a white T-shirt that's not see through, pffffff. I did have a good pair of white shorts from Ann Taylor once, but that was 15 years ago when most things were not actually made like a piece of garbage. Good luck in your search. Maybe check white denim shorts?

I'm with Scarlet on the substantial opaque white tshirt! Shorts would be twice as hard to hunt down. Good luck on the quest.

I ended up buying a pair of white jeans that was not see through and having them hemmed to Bermuda length (I think). That worked well, except the shorts keep slipping down my hips (annoying). Anyone want a pair of size 29 bermuda shorts?

Thanks for your sympathies, ladies! I ordered them, along with some blue denim Kut bermudas. We'll see.

I actually have been trying on white pants, too, with the thought of shortening - no luck there yet. But I will persevere and let you know how they turn out.

It is a challenge! Agree with Amy about the beige pockets! I have a pair of Gap skinnies from a few years ago that I cut off into clams (and cut out the pockets). Not the best strategy, but it's all I got :).

mine are from aeropostale and i LOVE them! however they are from a few seasons ago and i know aeropostale has changed the cut of their bermudas. i tried to buy another pair last season or so and they were cut differently. good luck!!

Sarah, will you please report your perceptions of the blue denim Kut bermudas? They look good to me, and because I quite like my Kut Diana white skinnies, I am wondering if these would also work for me. I figure if they do work for you, they'd probably be good for me as well.

Just for the record, I bought the KUT denim shorts last year and they are fabulous! I love them. I have two pairs, I like them that much. Flattering and comfortable. In these, you may end up sizing down as I find KUT denim to be on the generous side for jeans/shorts. I really like these shorts, and would recommend them for sure.

Unfortunately, I just took a look around for the exact pair of KUT bermuda shorts I got last year (purchased mine from Nordstrom I think) and I can't find them...I'll keep looking. Here's a picture of the ones I have (photo from Amazon, but they are 'unavailable' on Amazon too):

The ones I see on Nordstrom right now have a different style of pocket (a welt type pocket). Not sure if that makes a difference.

In the meantime, I'll be sure to post back here if I find "the" KUT bermudas I got last year anywhere this year.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I will certainly keep you posted on the ones I bought and how they fit.

I have cut off an old pair of white skinnies, but they don't fit perfectly in the waist and I do have my white clams from last year that I made from long IPL pants, but they're a bit baggy in the rear. So, those will tide me over. Plus it's supposed to snow in a couple of days!

I feel your pain. I recently ordered white jeans from Boden (in the UK) and the pocket linings were that nude colour - I'm not sure if they do white shorts, but it might be worth a try? I think white denim is the way to go, as the fabric is naturally thicker than the skimpy, thin stuff manufacturers seem to use for everything these days.
