Shorts for winter - yay or nay?

I tried on these cord shorts at Benetton today and thought they would look great with tights for winter. What do you think?

Also, what colour should I get? The purple (pics 1-3) or forest green (pic 4)? I have mustard, purple and red sweaters so maybe forest green? It is a bit brighter IRL, but still quite a deep, rich colour.

I love the look of shorts and tights. I'd get the purple ones. To my eye they are dark enough to be winter appropriate but adds a bit of colour when worn with black tights x

I love the look of shorts and tights too, it seems so fashion forward to me. I have never been brave enough to try it though. If you are though, I'd say go for it! I think the purple ones would look great with black tights.

I like the look of shorts and tights for winter and I like the colors of both these. However, I don't particularly like the cuff and wonder how that will look with tights.

I love the look of shorts with tights too, but I'm not sure about the length of these ones. Maybe it's only the angle, but these look very short to me. I like it better when the shorts have a bit more length for this look. And maybe a bit of slouch?

Get both!
The green ones have a military-ish vibe. The purple ones would look great with black tights+white shirt+black sweater. However, if you have mustard, purple & red sweaters, the green ones might be more versatile.

Contrary to Astrid, I prefer shorter shorts with tights and longer ones without tights. I feel long shorts + tights make for a nun-like outfit. It's true that some shorts can look tacky, but I don't think this is the case.

Oh, and tights are comfier with shorts than with skirts because, guess what, they don't ride down!! lol

I pair them all the time, but I do need a new pair of shorts since mine are waaay too big on me. Somehow I can't find the right substitute for them.

Oh, and I would go for the purple ones.

Astrid: I'm the opposite, I like the short shorts and tights look. Although now I really want a pair of baggy Tweed shorts!

I like them but I think I would size up for a winter shorts outfit. I like shorts worn with tights to be short but baggy/slouchy.

I'm with Diana, winter shorts that are slouchier look best to my eye. I quite like shorter shorts with tights in the winter, too. My vote is for the purple! Do you know if the corduroy will soften much? That will also help the look.
