Up for for your evaluation and comment are two Ann Taylor Loft toppers. I fell in love with the blues and greens of the long blazer and was sold, but my first reaction after seeing it photographed at home is that it is too long (and I normally love the drama of long blazers). The proportions or something seem off, especially when I compare it to the cropped sweater jacket. Anyway, I think I’m going to return it and keep looking for a blazer I love.

Are you seeing what I am seeing?

Kyle, I love the colours and the idea of jacket #1 the most, but I’m wondering if the one you brought home is one size too large? It looks overlong in the arms, a smidge too big across the shoulders, and the stance seems low (though you haven’t shown it buttoned up.) Can you try a size down?

I also wonder if it’s too big. I tried a size down in the store but it was pulling across my shoulders a bit too much.

Love the color of the jacket #1 - but less so the length/style ( could be cuffed at sleeves of course to make it less bulky ).
Sweater jacket is very cute on you - perfect proportions!

To my eye, the colour of #1 looks better over the column of white than the darker topper in #2. The shoulders are perhaps a smidge too wide on the blazer, though oversized has been going strong for so long I think my eye has adjusted. I think the shorter Chanel-style jacket is really wonderful and I can picture it looking smashing if styled differently -- perhaps over dark-wash denim to tie in the navy? Or just swap out the white sneakers for a darker pair?

Well, I think that #1 looks like a contemporary, a slightly oversized fit. Maybe sleeves are too long, try turning them up. The second one looks too classic, IYKWIM, it needs to be styled with something like wide leg pants or a denim skirt. I would definitely keep #1.

Wow I like it. The color is yummy. I am biased I like my toppers long covering my mid section.
Hope you get it sorted as it looks like it has Fab potential.

I like the colors and the idea of the first jacket. The 2nd one has potential, too. I would do styling sessions with both of them and decide after that.

Beautiful colours and textures in that jacket but the sizing does seem off. You might try the smaller size again just in case.

Yes, I am seeing what you’re seeing, although the longer blazer’s colours are lovely, it’s slightly too big in the shoulders and the sleeves are too long.
I much prefer the proportions of the cropped sweater blazer on you.

I agree with Irina. Blazers that are slightly or somewhat oversized with extended/strong shoulders and longer sleeves are in at the moment, and the blazer in #1 fits right along with that look. (See examples below, from a few current RTW shows for fall 2023, from Altuzarra, Khaite, and Tory Burch.) But if you are not feeling it, then that's that :)! It's got to feel right to be right, and there are so many blazer/jacket options available at the moment, that you shouldn't settle if it doesn't feel right.

I second what Jonesy said, and she included such good illustrations! I like how it looks a lot and prefer it to the shorter blazer.

Well yes I am seeing what you’re seeing- but I don’t like long blazers so I would always not think they look as good as more cropped ones. I like the proportions of the second jacket much better.

I like the proportions of the cropped jacket more, but agree about the color. You need a cropped jacket in the colors of #1!

I love the colors! I see what Jonesy sees too. I think the trick with these slightly oversized blazers is to play with styling — scrunching the sleeves for more structure helps. The shorter jacket is nice but definitely more classic. It all depends on what you want from a jacket!

The fabric is beautiful but I agree that the fit isn't quite right, which is too bad. I'd been eyeing this blazer myself, but I think I'll pass -- longer, oversized jackets are very current but it's not the fit I prefer for myself.

For me I think the texture/pattern reads as ‘a lot’ in an oversized blazer. But it’s classic (Chanel inspired) in the shorter tipped one. We are just more used to the look I think.
I have one oversized blazer in a small menswear style check pattern that reads as more of a ‘false plain’. I still find it to be ‘a lot’ but rolling up the sleeves makes a huge difference! It looks (to me) like a clown coat until I roll up the sleeves which transforms it to a trendy look I feel good in. But I wouldn’t personally wear a black or other solid colour blazer anyway, so this is it for me on this trend I think.
Point being - I think you should keep looking for an oversized blazer that fits you better, has the right pattern or colour for the proportions (this is subjective of course), and play with the styling.

For what it's worth, I wonder if you'd prefer the longer blazer with a bottom that has less contrast against it? The length of the blazer kind of hits you at the 1/2 way point of your body - which is not always everyone's cup of tea (personally doesn't both me but it's something I've read about many times - that rule of thirds thing). I might try it with jeans in a similar tone to see if you feel the same about it ...?

I think Helena’s onto something. I’d like to see the first blazer with something like a pair of blue casual wash boyfriend jeans, boots, and the white tee, with the sleeves pushed up.

I will add - I have a great difficulty in understanding proportion and what suits me best with that parameter.
