Shopping Success (long post)

I went on a solo shopping trip yesterday. I went to Macy's hoping to find some high end white jeans, but the highest end my local Macy's stocked were CK and DKNY. I tried on 3 or 4 different pairs of white jeans and didn't like any of them. I think I have three issue with white jeans:

1. I'm not used to seeing myself in white pants, yet.
2. I'm inbetween a size 8 and 10. The 8's are too tight on my thighs (which is not usually a problem I have), and the 10's are too big everywhere else.
3. I will look best in a straight leg, or a slight bootcut. Something about white jeans in a wide leg looks goofy on me.

So, I'll keep looking, and keep trying to lose more weight. But I feel it was successful because I understand what I'm looking for now.

I was also looking for a dark denim skirt--I didn't see one single denim skirt in the misses department. I was also looking for a denim or similar jacket to replace my poorly fitting one. I tried on a CK white jacket, but it wasn't structured enough, and not quite long enough, and it was too fussy--so at least now I know what to look for.
I did find a pair of CK wide leg jeans in a really dark rinse--they almost looked black. They were on clearance for $48--so I'll hem them to wear with flats. I also found a black cardi to replace my old one (the same brand and everything!).

Then I stopped at Kohls to look for a pair of black sandals. I found a pair that cross between smart casual and work appropriate. I figured while I was there, I'd look for white jeans. I spotted one single pair of Levis 545 bootcuts.. but they were size 12 I tried them on anyway to see if a smaller size might work--and I think they will. I just have to find them. But this style will not be work appropriate. But I can live with that. Because, then I spotted a white denim skirt that was made for me. It has cargo pockets, flap back pockets, straight, stopped just above my knee. So I'm thinking I can acheive a similar white pants look, just with a skirt. Then I tried this dress on:

I loved everything about it except the neckline. I almost bought it anyway to see if my mother could recreate the neckline. I am sure she could, I'm just not sure how it would come out.

I think I'm going to order that dress, and order the Levis jeans online. THen I'll be done shopping for a while. I'll keep my eye open for a denim type jacket and a dark denim skirt. But the jacket wont be needed til the fall, and I have several new skirts to get me thru the season.

I'll post pictures of my new purchases soon and post them to get YLF approval before cutting off the tags. I felt so productive shopping yesterday because of everything I learned at YLF. I was only shopping for 4 hours, but accomplished at least 8 hours worth of shopping from my pre-YLF days.

Hooray Nicole! I'm so happy you had such a productive shopping trip! Sometimes the facts we learn about what we need are more useful than actual purchases.
I like those jeans you bought, and the dress is cute, I think it shouldn't be too difficult to change the neckline into scoop or deep v. Can't wait to see your new white denim skirt.

Thanks Tanya...I just ordered the white levis and the sheath dress. I found 2 coupon codes and it let me use both of them. I got both items for under $50! I love a bargain!

Yay! A white skirt! I love the sound of that. You look GREAT in a skirt. Can't wait to see it on. Think of all those black tops that you can wear with your new white skirt. No luck with gumball beads?

Love the look of the jeans AND the dress if you can alter the neckline. (that’s precisely the type of dress that I would wear btw).

Hope your white Levis work out and do you think you have enough tops? You had a super shopping trip my dear!

Whew...I'm tired just reading everything you did. I'm so glad it was productive. I find that's half the battle for me. If I'm finding a few things that I like, I can overlook all the other things that aren't working.

I like the dress and I think it will look very nice on you. Super bargain hunting skills! Looking forward to the pictures to see how everything works out!

Do you guys think they fit okay? Like I said before, I'm between sizes--these are 8's. I'm not crazy about those lines on the back of my thigh--but I'm thinking the denim with stretch.

And here's the white skirk. What do you guys think of that belt? It came with the skirt. I didn't want to cut the plastic thing that holds it onto the skirt until I knew for sure that I wasn't returning it.

Last but not least--might as well kill two birds...This is the outfit I wore shopping. Angie, this is the denim skirt that isn't dark enough for smart casual. And the red top is one that was discussed here as being too short and not quite right...how does it work with a casual skirt? Is it worth keeping for skirts? Or should it find it's way out of my closet?

My issue with the jeans isn't the fit but the rise. It looks too low, making your legs look short. Something that hits just below the belly button would probably be better.

I really like the white skirt a lot, as well as the light wash skirt. I actually think I like you best in cropped pants and skirts. I'm not sold on the top though. It just seems like an old worn tshirt to me.

I like the white skirt on you! very slimming and the length is perfect. The jeans look great, very smart. Your shopping outfit looks good to me. I'll keep them until you have better ones to replace them. Glad to hear that you had a successful trip!

Hmm, I'll have to measure the rise on the jeans. I thought it was a 9" rise. I don't remember them feeling too low. Could be that the shirt is kind of bunched up intentionally to show the fit of the jeans.

I'm so glad you both like the white skirt. I really like it too and I'm very excited to wear it. My daughter (she so stinkin' cute) took the photos and she said to me..."you know mom, I think that skirt would look really great with yellow".

How about shoes? I just threw on the only white pair of shoes I own...I'm always unsure of what shoes to wear with skirts. I'm afraid dark shoes will look clunky next to the lightness of the white skirt.

The white skirt is fantastic! VERY flattering. It is a perfect cut and do tell your darling daughter that it will indeed look wonderful with yellow! (you’ll probably find a better belt in your closet)

The faded denim skirt fits really well too. I'd like to see a dressier top and shoes with this particular denim skirt. Nice contrast. Perhaps the T-shirt could be demoted to loungewear. Good colour on you though.

I think the jeans are a good fit and in a great wash. Do they feel too tight when you sit down?

Maybe it's just the picture. I guess I would have to see it as you would actually be wearing it.

I like the shoes for a casual look, which seems to be what you're going for. I know what you mean about dark shoes looking heavy. I agree about that, unless it's a very lightweight sandal that shows more foot than shoe.

And daughter may be right about yellow! Maybe yellow shoes! Ooooh!

Off topic, but I wish my mom was cool enough to know how to use the internet. I don't even bother telling her about this place, lest she think you're all a bunch of predators and stalkers.

Maya, I measured the rise on those jeans and it is over 9"...almost 9.5".

I'll lose the red shirt. Thanks for the advice Maya and Angie.

I have a yellow skirt shirt...and I've been looking for a pair of colorful shoes, either red or yellow. I'm having a hard time finding some that are comfortable though. I *almost* bought these the other day. Do you think they'd work with the skirt?

9" is a good front rise measurement, Nicole and both pairs of shoes will work beautifully with skirts! I’m particularly partial to the yellow pair.

I’m way behind on ready YLF because I’ve been busy with real life lately. I was excited to read about your shopping trip though and just and to comment.

I’m also looking for a dark denim skirt and have had no success so far. I found one I though I liked online from Old Navy, but in person it was nearly black and had much more fading than I prefer. I also found one on New York and Company’s website, but it wasn’t in the store, so I couldn’t try it on.

Your purchases look great. I especially love the white skirt. It looks fantastic on you! Your daughter is right; it would look great with yellow. I just bought a white skirt too.

The khols dress is lovely as well. Your mom should be able to fix the neckline easily; my mom does stuff like that all the time.

The Mudd shoes look great. I can’t wear slide wedges like that though. I bough a pair this spring, but every time I wear them they flop up and down and rub blisters on my feet. They are great if you don’t have that problem with them though.
