I tried on this sheer shirt dress, maxi even, this weekend. My daughter vetoed it, but something keeps me looking at it.

I know I would wear a dark slip under it. at least nearly to my knees. It reminds me of the Mango safari/shirt dress I looked at recently. Probably not a better option. Stop me please

I also am adding another alternative....that I haven't seen in the shops yet, but have to try to know my size. It appeals, but not in the same way, probably because it does not have a collar or visible buttons? But it does have sleeves.

Would you go for the sheer dress? It is a 'cheap' one in Norwegian terms

Very bold. I would suggest getting it ONLY if you can get the under slip part at same time. If you don't , you might end up with a closet orphan.
The second dress is a gorgeous color and does have the benefit of not needing a slip. But it is so covered up compared to number one that I wonder if it would satisfy your longing for this type of dress?
Where do you envision dress #1 going? Dates and casual dinners,etc?
With something like this I have to ask myself where I might actually wear it : )

That said, you could rock the dress!

Sheer clothing is on trend now but I think it is hard to pull off without weering into a dangerous territory. I know it would drive me crazy to have to wear something under it all the time but on the other hand a black cami and black leggings can look good.
I am not a fan of the second dress oather than the color and the fact that it has sleeves

Hi Jayne how much wear would you get out of the sheer dress - I have to admit I'm not a fan but I think the other dress is lovely & has a more grown up look & feel.

I am unsure about both of them. The first one is too sheer in my opinion and the second one is a gorgeous color but I can't tell from the silhouette what it would look like on. I think you can do MUCH better!

Yeah, I must admit it is a huge relief to get this feedback ...the sneaking suspicion that neither is fab enough confirmed. Thanks so much Meridith, Sveta, Kiwichik, and Christieanne, I will keep looking!

Jayne I'm not sold on either dress for you. If you are drawn to the sheerness of #1, I think maybe getting a sheer blouse that you could layer a tank underneath would be the best option.

Aida, it isn't the sheerness, it is the length and the collar and buttons. I think I am obessed with safari type looks

I am not familiar enough with your style, but I'm with NailpolishMan! I could totally see the long, sheer dress over a shorter jersey tank dress in a variety of colors - such a cool, mysterious, etherial effect!

I need to concentrate on sleeved safari dresses, which is what i realllllly want

I'd have to see the sheer dress on but my suspicion is no. I tried on a sheer black buttondown and it was difficult to figure out.

Can you wear the collar style of that second dress?

Good point, no that collar on the second dress will not work for me. I just gave away something else that had that collar. Good eye!
