I have been wanting a plaid/tartan shirt for a long time, something like this one from J Crew. However, living far from any J Crew, and also with a limited budget, I thought I better be creative and use what I have. I altered an old tunic (bought on sale in 2009 and rarely worn the past two years) into a shorter popover blouse. I used a shirt as pattern and created tails at the bottom after shortening it considerably. I also removed the pockets and took it in at the side seams.

I'm quite pleased with the result, and will definitely be wearing it more now. Still, I would prefer a classic blackwatch tartan shirt, so if I find one and the price is right, I'll definitely upgrade.

What do you think?

Again, please ignore the terribly dirty mirror. I had no idea! Will be cleaned asap. Thanks for looking!
