Shopping math help (k/r)

So I've been looking for flat refined boots that are sturdy enough for winter.

Instead, I fell in love with exhibit a--suede knee high with a patent wedge heel. Which is not what I need.

Now the math...I also fell in love with a new purse and some necklaces. The last time I bought a new piece of jewelry was 4 years ago. Longer for a purse.

1 gold necklace = 2 lapis = 2 purse = 4 boots

Still with me? Based on the math above, should I return the boots and save up for the other items? Because this is Highlander, there can be only one.

Those boots are lovely. And I have to say, my black suede knee high boots are total workhorses for me. However.... I would worry that the patent on these will get wrecked. Easily. And it would be very obvious. Because of this, I vote return. Either persue the boots you know you need, or look for similar with a more practical heel. Can't really offer advice on the rest of the equation, my shopping math lately has been all about the adding, not so much the subtracting or balancing.

I like the gold necklace the best. Is it the most expensive? If so, that's the story of my life. It reminds me of the things they find in ancient archeological sites. I wasn't following your math, so I hope you can get it.

I know what I would do. I would go for the necklace. I think it adds the most pizzazz. The boots are beautiful, but you can a.ways find beautiful black boots for less. The purse is a great color, but you don't always have your bag with you do you? I don't. I set mine down, it sits in a drawer. It sits in my desk or on a table. A necklace adds zest and style always and it's up front and center where everyone can see it. If you love it then that's all the more reason to get it. It sounds like you rarely add pieces to your collection. This one is special and attracted your attention. That's how I do my math. Heart math.

I would forgo the boots, which you don't need and look fussy with the patent and the suede. I think the bag and necklaces all look good but I would pick the one that makes you most excited right now to wear and focus on that.

I'm with Anna. If it's been 4+ years since you bought a purse, and this one makes your heart sing, I vote return the boots and get the purse; and save up for that fabulous jewelry! Esp. the gold necklace. YUM.

It's late and I'm tired so no math for me! But...

I LOVE the necklace in pic #6 (that's the lapis?).

The other necklace (#5) is okay, but similar in that it's gold + blue. If it's much more expensive, I vote pass in favor of #6.

You need a purse if you haven't bought one in 4 years. Conundrum. I like the color of this one especially with the jewelry coordination. I.e., they are like a pair. If you can only afford one or the other, that is a tough call.

As for the boots... I'll be the naysayer... I think they are too tall. Love the wedge and sleekness, but worry they are hitting you too high. Did you try sitting in them? Did the top of the boot rub the back of your knee when you sat? I.e., the driving test? Boots that tall on me would snag the car seat when I'd attempt to brake. Of course you could get them shortened by a cobbler, but that's additional $. Then there's practicality. But yeah..... then there's comfort, and for comfortable shoes, I would invest there first in a heartbeat!

Okay to add to your math equation, I'll tell you that a few months ago while in Sedona I splurged on an $800 moonstone bib necklace. The most expensive piece of jewelry I now own, not counting my wedding set. It just called to me on so many levels. It was barely a debate in my head. I am happy to say I have worn that necklace constantly -- several times a week. It goes with everything, as statement making as it is. It's fast becoming a signature item in my wardrobe. No regrets.

Ack... just realized the boots are SUEDE. I have some input on that:

I have a gorgeous pair of sleek black suede boots that fit perfectly and are totally comfortable to walk in (low heel, not a wedge). I baby those beauties. I've had them well over 10 years now!

Thing is, babying means I never ever ever wear them if there's any slightest weather going on outside! That's why they've lasted so long because Boston = weather.... rain, slush, snow, mud, etc.....

I should add that these boots weren't even all that expensive when I bought them way back when. I spent less than $100 on them. Then again my biggest requirement for tall boots is fit -- it's been about 10 years since shoe manufacturers figured out the mass market wasn't 5'0 tall like me... and has made it nearly impossible for me to upgrade my tall boot wardrobe because the boots are just too dang tall. Grrr. Even the booties are too freaking tall for me these days -- rub my ankles and shins in all the wrong places.

TL;DR: I will just focus my $ instead on necklaces. To draw eyes up and away from my less-than-stylish feet. That only works so far as statement necklaces also frequently aren't to scale for short people.

LIke the others, I can't do math this late at night except for the heartstrings kind. I love these items and think the boots look great (although I take Elizabeth P's point about the suede/patent, and Shiny's points about height of them, and suede...) but you said yourself you don't need.

Of course nobody needs jewellery either but it lasts for a long time. And then there is the beautiful bag which would look amazing on you (and you could use your Danier kit to care for it, tee hee...). But....in the end, I say go with Staysfit's test .Which item is calling more sweetly now?

@ElizabethP thanks for the tip on a more practical heel. i always get my skinny heel shoes caught between the slats in my deck on the way out the door. chunky heels= cheaper than a new deck!

@annagybe thanks for reassuring me that the boots fit well. baggy ankles is the bane of my boot-wearing with a larger calf. also, love you telegraphic message -->I get bag.

@JAileen you and i are afflicted with the same disease of good expensive taste. no cure, no vaccine.

@Staysfit heart math tells me the jewelry. i just ran downstairs to ask mr bj1111 what he would grab first and he said me. still feeling warm and fuzzy.

@shevia i would find the lapis more useful to fill in my v-neck tops. the gold one though--magpie shiny object must have.

@Aida i want the purse mostly for meetings and conferences. for which i have to travel. i will need to leave room in one of my two carry ons to put my purse in when i board. hmmm...this is getting complicated.

@shiny thanks for telling me the story of the sedona necklace. it's so true when a piece just speaks to you. i have a necklace that makes me feel just like your moonstone one does. it's the first "really expensive" necklace i bought myself. i've worn it so much over the last 10 years that my best friend told me to get a new one! --and thanks for the words of wisdom about suede from a fellow slush sufferer.

@Suz if i keep the boots, you can bet i'm breaking out my danier kit courtesy of a canadian elf.

I like the gold necklace best. The bag is also good. I like the OTK boots but bought and returned a SW pair myself last month because I did not think they would get the real wear I was hoping for.

If the gold necklace = 1 or 100...

One bag is 50 (so get the bag)
One boots is 25 (so get the boots)

Now you have 25 left. Good for you, you underspent your budget!!! Now you get to buy the gold necklace as a bonus / reward for coming in under budget.

At least this is how I do girl math!
