There has been a posting trend of folks expressing a certain angst over the whole shopping activity ( on line, and bricks and mortar) as well as questioning their participation in this forum.
I sometimes also question the money I spend on fashion magazines, and sometimes the time I spend playing dress- up and wonder of there is something else I should be doing with my time.
LIKE WHAT?
Writers spend time assessing, writing, re - writing, thinking, researching. They use pen, paper, ink cartridges, and other resources. They consult peers, editors.
Artists spend time contemplating and observing, sketching, photographing, preparing materials. They use canvas, paper, paint, clay, metal, glass. They consult with peers, invite strangers to examine their work.
Athletes spend time formulating strategy, and training plans. They practice their sport, and cross train. They pay attention to what they eat, their sleep patterns. They consult with peers, coaches.
I do not believe that being interested in fashion, and caring about what you look like is really any different than amateurs with passions for the arts, sports, cooking, gardenin, what-have- you.
If I am doing my job at work, and my family isn't neglected, and my health and finances are not adverslely impacted, then I will not resent the 4 hours spent at the mall doing reconnaissance, but leaving empty handed. (Well the Teflon pan I needed doesn't count.). I will not lament an evening reading and participating in this forum, or watching a television show on fashion, or buying a fashion magazine. I will make time to play with and maintain my clothes, and grooming. I will budget money for these things as well.
And when someone at work says my colourful outfit brings them cheer, or my DH says I am looking particularly good, I will say " thank you" and know that I am FAB!
