Shopping in Germany - coat and boots

Shopping while on this trip in Germany has been a challenge for me - it's making me realize how much I rely on the forum to help me make decisions about what to buy! Here I'm only in each town for a few days and won't be able to return items later, so I have go go with my instincts.

Of course, now I'm second-guessing my instincts. So please tell me what you think of this coat and boots.

The coat was a tough decision for me, because I thought that I was completely done with ruffles and it's expensive. But something about it just seems amazing. I'm not sure how well this shows up in the pictures, but it's patchwork (made from different pieces of material) and has embroidery on the back, side and sleeves. What do you think?

I'm not too worried about the boots, I love them. I hope you approve.

Medusa: it does seem to be an amazingly crafted coat, but I don't really love it on you. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but part of it is that the huge ruffles are overwhelming and not really your style?

I'm not sure I'm 100% sold on the coat either Medusa. It seems a bit overwhelming and busy on you. It would need to be styled with no extra fanfare.

May I suggest returning the coat. It's arty, but not quite right. Too many bells and whistles. It's overwhelming your frame and wearing you. Hope you find something better asap!

The boots are fabulous. I also vote return the coat. I think the patchwork *and* ruffles is just too much and the coat seems to be wearing you x

I'm sorry to say that I agree with everyone: the boots are fantastic, the coat is meh. But I think you're saying that you can't return it, so maybe you can make it work by pairing it with very simple, sleek elements.

Wow, the boots are fabulous. I really like the coat also, but being the practical girl that I am, I think it would be hard for an everyday coat because of all the elements. And having seen many other pieces that you own, I just can't see this coat being versatile with your wardrobe. With that said, if it is going to be more of a special occasion coat, where it is the centerpiece of your outfit, then I vote keeping it.

Awesome and edgy looking boots, nice buy! As for the coat, it's a difficult piece because of so many different textures, fabrics, and extras (ruffles and embroidery). I think it's too much of everything and I agree, it's pretty overwhelming.

Those boots are absolutely fierce, but I'm just not feeling that coat.

I'm sure you'll find PLENTY of great cold weather fashion because the big winter clearance sale is going on right now in Germany! Check out the Heidelberg Hauptstrasse for department stores (Danheimer, Kaufhof, H&M) and numerous lovely boutiques.
