Shopping ideas for London, UK?

Hi everyone!

I'm a Swedish girl who used to have an account here several years ago, and really enjoyed it! I think my style has never been better than those years Somehow I drifted away from it, but now I will give it another chance!

First thing I need help with - I'm going to London, UK tomorrow (favourite city in the world) and I realise I need some shopping advice... I turn 30 in a couple of days (!!!), and after browsing my favourite London shops online (Topshop, Urban Outfitters...) I have to admit that... I'm getting older..! The fashion there doesn't really appeal to me anymore..! Oh my... So, for a 30-year-old who needs an updated warderobe (but doesn't have too much money), where would you suggest I go?

A bit about my shape and style: I think I have an apple shape, as the tummy is my most prominent feature... I wear a (UK) size 12-14, and my warderobe consists of three styles, I'd say: dresses, jeans and loose tops, or a black skirt with a top. I like colours (and love polka-dots!). I found some clothes on the Debenhams home page that I like (maybe that's a place to go to?), they can give you a hint of my "style" (I'm more into comfort that fashion):

I would much appreciate any suggestions and ideas of places where I can find some nice outfits that "suits my age"! I know this is a US based page, but last time I was a member there were a few people from the UK as well, so I hope that's still the case..!

Oh, and I'm looking for comfortable, casual clothes, that still look nice. No dress code in my office (thank God!), and I'm mostly looking for everyday wear.

Have you considered Boden? They always have polka dots! Their store is near London, a subway trip and a hike away. Very cute, fun clothes. It is an excursion though, so make sure it's your style before you decide to go. Have fun!

Thanks so much Carter for your comment! I'll definitely look it up! We're only in London for a few days this time so not sure if we'll have the time to go somewhere outside of London, but I'll definitely keep it in mind!

Boden's a thought - I know they had at least one store within London when I went last time. Easy walking distance from the Underground. Maybe also River Island and Jigsaw, for workwear.

I've always had good luck with the department stores, which I think might give you the fun but grown-up thing you're looking for: Debenham's, Selfridges, Peter Jones, Harrods (a little pricey in some departments but you can find sales). And the queen (ha) of them all, Marks & Spencers - I know a lot of people associate them with boring basics but I've gotten several things over the years, especially from their store lines, that were wonderful, including a silk dress that I wore to several weddings.

They also have H&M and Zara and all that jazz but being from Sweden that's probably not that novel to you.

I have a great fondness for overshopping Miss Selfridge... prices are very reasonable and my best dress ever was from there (a navy, jersey faux wrap midi dress).

Thanks so much for all the ideas! Joules had some really cute dresses and good prices, so I'll definitely go there. Debenhams and Selfridges too, maybe even M&S and yes, I forgot about River Island and Miss Selfridge,I've been there and like them.
