Shopping for weekend wardrobe

I would be grateful for your thoughts on the photos below. I am looking to add to my weekend wardrobe. I have a lovely teal CM jumper that I bought in the sales last year and my teal trench, so between these items I thought items that went with these would be a good start.

The first item is a suedette skirt. The fit is good, although I would need to wear tights. Do you think the fabric could look cheap? It wasn't especially 'cheap' but I don't really know much about this fabric. The brand is Esprit. The A line style is good on me and the fabric has sufficient flexibility to not stand out to the side IYKWIM.

The second item is a dress. The fit is good. I just haven't worn anything with quite such a big print of flowers for a long time, and I wonder if it is just too busy. The brand is Esprit.

Both items are wild cards, so all thoughts would be welcome. Thank you for looking!

I really like the dress, but I’m generally attracted to patterns like that. Problem is, once I get them home, the big flowers intimidate me every time I think of putting the thing on. Will you do that, or will you actually wear it?

It’s hard to comment further without seeing them on you.

Well I like each of these, and I’m pretty confident the floral print would go nicely with your colouring.
The floral print could be just the wild card that you need......

Also I don’t think the suedette looks cheap. I mean, obviously it’s a bit fashion-ey iykwim but I think a trendy item like that could really add freshness to your outfits. :).

I like both. How do they fit into your weekend lifestyle? In the Esprit photos, the print of the dress is fairly bright, so I agree with FashIntern about thinking whether you would actually wear it. Did you get the navy or the petrol in the skirt?

I loved Esprit, Jane. I thought they were an Australian brand, didn't realise until past few years that they originated in California in 1968 and expanded to Australia and NZ in the 80s. I had these "pedal pushers" I bought in Sydney in 1984 the first time I went to Australia. I was still wearing them after having my first baby in 1991. They were sort of turquoise stripes and I loved them. Sadly they closed all Australian and NZ stores earlier this year, but hadn't bought from them for some time due to cost, probably about 10 years. The stuff I had bought was good quality. Retail analysts said they had trouble distinguishing their offering here.
I do like busy prints myself and think the dress would look great on you! I just find I don't wear skirts much at all but you may be different! The skirt is a great colour match for your jumper.

I would suggest trying them on and doing an “outfit lab”, styling them with various pieces you have, in ways you might wear them on weekends, and see how that feels. And of course post if you’d like!

They are both great items. Esprit left Canada ages ago, I liked them too.

Jane, the floral, although large, does not look like it is high contrast. It will probably not overwhelm you. Can you wear the jumper over the dress so that the dress looks like a skirt? The jumper looks like a good match for the skirt. It is hard to judge how it looks on you without a photo.
