Shopping feedback pls! a rebound purchase??

Hi guys,

The tam-spam continues.... Today I went and did a bit of clothes shopping for the first time since being in Melbourne. I've done window shopping, but been too broke to consider even buying lip balm in the last month.

Inspired by Angie's posts, today I was hoping to come away with a white tunic I had spotted at Esprit as a bit of an investment piece. I had seen this tunic at Esprit a month ago and thought it looked great on the rack. Unfortunately it doesn't look great on me (and I think the material is too see-through.

I also tried on a dress there that thrilled me on the rack, but not on my body.

To make up for my dissapointment at Esprit, I went to Portmans instead. I liked this cotton knit top, but not the black pants I first tried it on with, although they did have some fun knee and ankle details.

Here's a pic of the tunic over my blue jeans. Do you think its too tight? I like the zip, the pleat, the ruched sleeves and the fact that its 100% cotton. The sales assistant swears it will stretch a bit but I don't know whether to believe her.

I also grabbed this cardie. It's an unusual shape, and again 100% cotton.

Doesn't really match the top I am wearing it over though, does it?

So what do you think about these purchases? Worth breaking my shopping ban for, or should I return them and hold out for something better?

I actually like the white tunic and dress you tried on at Esprit the best! The shape and white of the tunic is very flattering.
I also love the cardie- very you!
The black top is fine- I am not sure that you couldn't do better.

I really like the tunic and the dress too. Can you wear a cami under the tunic for more coverage?
I had to laugh at the jeans down around your feet- I did exactly the same thing in the dressing room at Target yesterday
One thing I've noticed about 100% cotton knits is that yes they do stretch.... but they stretch out way too much for my liking. by the end of the day I feel like a sloppy mess.
I"m not sure I'm crazy about the cardi.

I like the black tunic the best, but I'm not crazy about it... you don't sound that crazy, either. :T If you are on a shopping ban, my opinion is to wait for something you luuurrve.

Hi Tam, it's so great to see you back! I hope you are getting used to the new city, and how is your job going?
I love the white tunic on you. White shirts are always more or less see-through, so you'd have to wear a cami underneath. I like the dress, too - I saw it on their site and wanted to try it a few months ago, but didn't get to it. I like the black tunic and the cardi, too, so I guess I am no help, but if you're on a shopping ban, I would just get the white tunic.

I like the white tunic and love the details on the pants. If I looked like you do it would not matter if the shirt was a little sheer. The pants around the ankles crack me up.You look great!

Hahah oh no - such different opinions!!

Marianne, really? Youhave to wear a cami under all white shirts? Ugh! I just didn't like the way you could tell where the pockets were because that bit was double lined. Maybe I'll try to go back and try it with a white bra and cami and see how that goes.

I have kept the tags on the Portmans things in case I change my mind. I may go back to the mall this weekend and try some more shops and see how I go.

Incidentally this mall is only 15 minutes away and its AMAZING. It has everything from Chanel and Tiffany (so out of my league) down to Target (much more my style). Love!

#1 I actually really like the tunic, i think it perhaps needs a nude/ white cami under it to give you a bit of coverage. It would be perfect for Angie's white tunic formula's. What don't you like about it?

I think you are way too hard on yourself! I actually adore the white tunic AND especially the dress! The colors of the dress are great on you!!

I also prefer the black tunic with the jeans for sure.

And that cardi is soo cool and structural, you can totally rock it!

I am with the gals: I love the things you liked least! The tunic looks so cute on you and the dress is fabulous! I love the print. American Esprit doesn't tend to be too colorful in general, so I am surprised to see that dress came from there.

The cardi is pretty cool. That's something I'd pick up off the hanger if I saw it. What great textural detail!

I think whether to break your shopping ban would depend on whether you really need anything. You didn't sound like you wanted any of them enough to justify breaking the ban.

Wow the differing opinions continue to come in. I just didn't feel fab in the tunic, but I'm willing to give it another shot with a white bra and cami underneath. Likewise I found the dress a bit blah as well. Or maybe I was blah that day, who knows. I'll try again and see!! Can't afford to get it all though, so I'll have to narrow the pickings down. There is a red top in FCUK that I was also eyeing, so that could also be a contender!! Stay tuned for weekend posting!
