Shopping at Winners

Once in a few months, I go shopping to the actual shops, not a mall.My favorite route is to visit three store - Nordstrom Rack, COS and on the way back home, Winners. This one receives more inventory from contemporary brands like Rag & Bone and Vince, Theory.

Once in a while they also sell high end brands. Today was such a day and I saw Gucci, Valentino, Moschino.

Picture #1 is a hideous (to me) short, jacquard Gucci dress and yes, this is a Winners price No, I didn’t try it on or anything from such brands. I don’t try things I don’t intend to buy. But I did try a bunch of other things (pic #2). None of them work, though.

Winners is such a mixed bag, right? Sometimes you can find absolutely amazing items (at decent prices) and other times, everything is ugly, in terrible condition, and high priced to boot!

The Gucci dress is still expensive! I love your white cross body bag and the items you selected to try on, the white shirt and pale jeans looks cool and crisp.

My local Winners is a bit of a miss at the moment, though in the past I sourced a Calvin Klein cashmere peacoat, and a Longchamps Neo.

I wish we had a store like that. I don’t mind that sort of mixed bag shopping. Looking for hidden treasures.

NYC used to have a store called Loehmanns. I liked going there because they had regular stuff plus some high end stuff discounted. Very hit and miss but fun to sift through. (Much nicer experience than Century 21, which was much more popular.)

Runcarla, over the years I saw so many nice bags there. I’m always on a lookout but only in this Winners and another one, similar. I noticed that non-designer bags went considerably down in quality at other stores.

Brooklyn, I love the hunt that Winners provide, I found some items there that I truly treasure.

Fun to search for treasures in those types of stores.
Are the sandals a try on, or yours? They look pretty cool!

Brooklyn, I believe Winners is owned by TJ Maxx....and we have the Aussie version TK Maxx which is always worth a look!

Well gosh tho, Winners sounds a real outlet. Ross only gets designer at Christmas. All other times of the year, it’s just leggings, lol

Which Winners out of curiosity (I believe we are both in Toronto)?
I don’t seem to have patience/an eye for ‘the hunt’ at Winners or thrift stores, so I’m forever impressed when people do.

rachylou, most of Winners and Marshals are boring year around.

Jules, this one is located at College & Yonge In College Park. It is a few blocks north from the Eaton’s. There is one more that I know with an extensive contemporary collection - in Leaside. Great store but not convenient for me.

Love your shopping outfit! Yeah, we had some good discount shopping in the past, with a mix of high-low and I often found great stuff with a little searching. I miss Loehmann’s! They always had stuff I wouldn’t see anywhere else. I haven’t been to the big outlet mall near here in nearly three years, but they had an Off Fifth and the Neiman Marcus discount store, and those were great for random finds — I got some of my past favorite pieces there. Alas, not so much anymore. The Rack is full of mostly crap these days.

Tell me about the outfit you're wearing ! I love it all ! I see you mentioned the sandals above - what about the shirt, jeans, and bag - it's a ? - I recognize the logo I think ...

Anyways, once or twice a year I think I should check out Winners because some of my friends have found great things there, but I just can't handle that store. Unless something is displayed on a rack right in front to me, I'm NOT digging through a 50 foot rail of "size M" tops (or whatever I'm looking at) . I am missing that hunt-and discover gene I think . I hear great things about the Bloor St location too -I think I was in it a few times when it first opened , years ago.

I LOVE the big shirt with the white-on-white polished and structured bag. And the white trim on the sandals makes the outfit

Places like Winners can be fun to shop at. I will absolutely enjoy that type of shopping once in a while. If I'm lucky - score! If not - oh well.....not a biggie. I keep expectations very low.

Thanks Irina - I remember hearing that location was supposed to be good years ago, then it got eclipsed by hype around Bloor St I think? Anyway the Winners on my beaten track is at east end low rent mall Gerrard Square, lol, not a lot of finds there

LJP, thanks. The shirt is casual, old one from COS, jeans are Levi’s and the bag is from Marc Jacobs, may last year post NAS purchase.
When I go to Winners, I only check their contemporary section, shoes and outwear.

Whatever skill is required to do well at Winners, I don't have it. Glad you had fun poking around even if you came home empty handed. Love your outfit!

Toronto folks, have you tried the Winners east of Union Station going towards the Distillery District? I think it’s still called Front street (sometimes street names change, even if in a straight line.) The store is on the south side of the street about as far east as the Hockey Hall of Fame - if that’s any help

I got Frette sheets there, and they carry more designer than any Winners I’ve ever visited.

Recently went to TJMaxx in Florida and was supremely unimpressed. I wonder if anyone remembers Filene's Basement in Boston. My grandmother used to take us there when we were kids and that was an experience.

RunCarla, before pandemic my office was behind the Union station and I walked past Winners on Front street every day to and from the office. It’s small and get some designer items like the most of Winners in Toronto. My favorite cargo pants (Vince) I bought there.

You know I am kind of with J’Aileen. I think the pattern of that Gucci dress looks interesting. I recently bought a summer dress at a NZ designer’s “garage sale” for $30 that started off at hundreds of dollars. I had seen it several years ago but balked at the price. There were only 2 left and one was my size!
It is kind of a similar pattern to that Gucci. But much cheaper!! I will model it eventually when our weather is warmer. I am still in winter clothes now in early Spring.

Ouch! No Gucci for me! . Love your shopping outfit, I’m taking notes because I got a white button down for the first time in ages and need to figure out how to wear it. Love the sandals!

I’m a TJ Max and Nordstrom Rack shopper but rarely see higher end brands there. Still fun to look though, if I’m in the mood.

I love the outfit you wear (or tried only?) in nr 2!!! That's your style, from head to toe! Love the white bag to the crisp white shirt, the fadded jeans and those sandals---well they are also gorgeous!!!

RobinF, thanks! I shop at Winners and the Rack only for a small number of brands that I wear but it’s always fun to look at some outrageously priced clothes

I like your shopping outfit. My favourite outfit this summer is an oversized white shirt and jeans.
I have never found anything at Winners. I lack that skill.

You are speaking my language, Irina! I do that same jaunt around college park one in a while I live near the Leaside Winners and Marshall’s and used to go there frequently…they have trimmed down their runway collection quite a bit in the last couple of years.
