Shop Your Closet - how are we doing midway through week 2?

I know some have taken a detour . . . and I honestly still had 2011 orders rolling in that were appeasing me. Now they have dried up and I'm window shopping online. Not buying, but tempted. I think it's hard to come here and see pretty things and not want them for myself as well
I've lusted after an Allsaints belt, an Asos wool coat, and now a Fossil belt I forgot I had favorited on Zappos months ago lol. I have to remind myself that I still can't wear the coats I have because it's only been under 70 twice so far, and that I don a belt all of about twice a month. Doesn't stop me from wanting, though. Sigh. Oh yeah, and the fact that I don't leave the house half the week and really don't get too far out of casual loungewear should be a big clue that I don't need more clothes right now Ha Ha.
Okay, operation whittle your Cost Per Wear needs to go back into effect. I need the distraction!!
How are you coping? Or is it smooth sailing for you? And if you fell off the wagon, are you back on?

I was living out of a suitcase for the last week (with no internet) so I'm still on the wagon! I probably missed out on the original thread but kind of decided to be SYC for the most part this year--I'm liking Kim's one purchase a month plan. I don't know if I have the resolve to stick with it but I'm willing to give it a go.

I'm holding strong! I'm at the point where not shopping feels liberating. I'm sure this will change! But right now I'm enjoying just looking at magazines, cutting out photos, and musing about where I want my style to go.

Off the wagon too -- not sure I have enough strength to jump back on! Determined I need a flat-heeled pair of short boots (since I am down to my fav pair and am afraid of wearing out) and also had a revelation that structured jackets work better than cardis with my wardrobe. But those are just excuses, right? :b

Ah, I made a revelation after reading about someone having no 'stand alone' shirts that I have almost all stand alone shirts, and could use some woven, simple, short sleeves for all my cute jackets. But that can wait, I tell myself!

You all are funny. I've been doing very well (have like no shopping funds at the moment makes it easier). I have been cleaning out my closet and honestly finding stuff that I forgot I had, or I'm coming up with new ways to wear them.

I'm doing better than I feel I am. I *feel* like I'm hemorraging money and buying stuff I shouldn't, but I've returned a LOT, and the stuff I'm keeping is either straight-up work attire or stuff I can get away with as work attire.

I've resisted the pull of ombre shorts at Esprit, a zip detail aviator... for some reason I really wanted yet *another* teal turtleneck, but I resisted that, too. I passed on the knee-high version of my beloved Docs... for now. They're still out there, so it'll be an ongoing resistance. :T

My black sweater dress will tide me over until next month. I did have to remind myself to "just move on" when I found myself fondling a scarf in Target yesterday.

I've had things rolling in from prior orders, I did order a few pair of shoes from 6pm, but I have returned more in value than I ordered and I've resisted buying even though I have full shopping carts at several sites and have trolled the mall (making returns) twice this week. I'm trying to be more focused. I have a strict list and am holding out for the best of those items.

Ha! I haven't even started yet and I'm already cheating. I'm going to attempt SYC Jan 15 - Apr 15. (I left myself a couple of weeks to sale-shop for some discounted winter things I've had my eye on.) One of my main reasons for doing SYC is to keep from buying spring/summer things too early in the season, and to give myself time to think about what direction I want my wardrobe to go in and what I need for that purpose. But I've already sneaked in a couple of spring purchases.

I am still ok right now. I purchased a few new items before starting SYC and have been wearing those first. I have a pair of red jeans at the tailors and I am counting the days until I pick them up. So I almost feel like I am not really SYC yet since I am wearing new things.

I also started tracking CPW and that's been a real eye opener. If I want to minimalize my wardrobe further I have a ways to go as my CPW of most items is quite high. A new project is to focus more on CPW reducing.

I do like some of the new items and colors arriving in stores right now. But my new rule is, I cannot purchase it if I cannot wear it right now. I have at least 3 more months of colder weather. So unless I can layer the new item for warmth now, I have to look away.

Just returned the tulip skirt that came with my berry cardigan from Old Navy. It was almost, but not quite. And I'm finding I won't wear the 'not quite' items and I need just rid my closet of them - period. So . . . not sure if that means I now have $18 to play with! Or if that just means my last minute ordering of 2011 didn't work out and I'm out of luck. Hmmm. I should probably be a good girl and consider it a 2011 purchase that didn't work out.

Aw, Mo, sorry the skirt did not work out. How about hanging onto the $18 to use only if you find a replacement for that skirt?

As an update for myself, the returns processes are really cooling my enthusiasm for shopping, lol. I guess that is a good thing.

Ooh, I like the idea of a replacement skirt allowance! Not a willy nilly $18 to wield but a concerted casual jersey skirt replacement effort Oh the games we play! ha ha ha ha ha ha
