Shoes for August Rain?

We don't get "huge puddles in the street" rain but still deal with hot weather rain -- not horribly hot but temps where I would usually wear sandals or breathable canvas sneakers.

What do you ladies wear for this weather? Leather shoes? Nylon sneakers?

I am wanting to go out and buy some rubber rain boots. I'll just need them for the parking lot from my car to work, but since I now own adult shoes (vs. just sneakers) I don't want to ruin them by rain or slush this winter.

If I'm wearing my chucks (so not all my shoes are "adult"), I'll just splash in the puddles!

I have a pair of leather ballet-style flats that I don't mind getting wet. I'll wear them on work days for the commute and carry nicer shoes in my bag to wear in the office. On weekends Converse is usually my go to if it's just a bit of rain.
The rubber rain boots seemed like a good idea in the spring when we were getting tons of rain, but as predicted by me, as soon as I bought them the rain became more of a "sometimes for a few minutes" thing.

I have a couple pairs of Keens (ballet flats and MJ mules, not sandals) I mostly wear as slip-on campsite shoes, but the wrap-around rubber soles make them great for summer rains, too.

I have never figured out a good solution to this problem. I can't stand rubber rain boots because they make your feet so hot and sweaty. Usually I just wear canvas sneakers or leather oxfords and just deal with them being slightly damp.(ETA: I keep extra shoes at work so if they're really wet I can change shoes.)

We haven't had much summer rain this year, knock on wood.

Oh! I can't believe I forgot. I do have a pair of patent leather oxfords that are good for more serious rain. The patent is pretty waterproof. They are still a little hot but not nearly so bad as rubber boots. I wear little secret socks in all my oxfords so it's not too sweaty.

If it's casualwear, I'd go for something that could get wet, like Tevas or water shoes. That isn't so great for the office - maybe a pair of non-leather ballet flats that won't get wet, but that you can take off and dry (and your feet) when you get indoors?

Remember those rubber overshoes that you could put on over your dress shoes? Do they still have those? I remember them for men, mostly, to wear over lace-up dress shoes, the kind you'd wear with a suit.

I think the warmth is throwing me off-- cold rain like we get in the spring and I just wear boots, but I hate ruining canvas shoes and having damp socks, but can't imagine wearing boots. Most ballet flats don't work for me, including many of the sporty brands. I used to have some awesome non-gear looking nylon water resistant sneakers, but they are no longer made.

These shoes are about all I'd have on that kind of day, a sturdy leather that wipes clean. The thing is, wet feet indoors makes me cold, so I wouldn't mind the shoes being hot in the rain.

Been meaning to respond to your question - sorry it took so long! The best shoes I have found for warm rain are these dressy croc flats. There are absolutely no issues with them getting wet and I happily wear them rain or shine with pants and dresses. Crocs have come a long way!

I appreciate all the advice, ladies. This thread was started before I got the news about Arizona-- I know I will have this same dilemma next year, but my solution will be totally different with the sudden downpours and very warm temp combos. I will come back here then!

In the warm, rainy weather I'll wear platform wedges to elevate me from puddles, sneakers if I'm wearing gear. For dog walking in the warm rain I'll throw on my sloggers gardening shoes without socks. No matter how careful I am when walking the dogs I end up with wet feet so I had to give in and add gardening shoes to my collection.

I have same issues, as recently dashed off wearing "nice" shoes in a pale and potentially "spot-prone" leather, and encountered a sudden shower. If it's already a rainy morning when I'm getting ready, I try to remember to plan outfit so I can wear shoes with a more durable leather finish, maybe a chunky sole (so of course not for prolonged walking in heavy rain or puddles ) but also started keeping some second-stringer loafers in car and I have some kind of walking shoes at work so in a real downpour I will wear those from car to building and change.
I would not be averse to having some mid-leg cute rain boots--wouldn't make sense to get something expensive, but just fun.

I have a pair of older black flats and navy flats that I don't mind getting wet,so if there's even a hint of rain, I wear them to work and carry my good shoes. If it's my day off, I wear Sperry topsiders or sandals if it's warm. Rain boots are too warm.

Either Boden short rain boots, or if it's very hot blue Marc Jacobs patent leather mouse flats. The mouse flats I have had for about 5 years and slogged through many a puddle in and they are still looking great.
