Angie said: I've found that although shoes need to be comfortable from the get go - THEY REALLY DO - they still need breaking in. And it is unfair to judge them after the first day of wear if they rub a little in one area. Most of the time that is sorted after a couple of daily wears.

I desperately want to believe Angie, but in my experience, if a shoe is not comfortable from the get go, they rarely are ever comfortable.

My shoes do not break in. Rockport is supposed to be a great shoe and I have four pair. Only one pair is comfortable enough to walk long distances. I just recently bought a pair of ballet slippers and one of them was tight across top of my foot. Would they break in? Or would I end up with another pair of shoes that are uncomfortable. I returned them rather than chance it.

If I am doing something wrong, tell me. Different brand? Only buy wide widths?
