Shoe review: Halogen mule (squeak!)

These are pictures of a NAS Halogen mule. If you are curious about these they are a tiny bit short and narrow.

Pros: They are flat, go with everything and a little bit dressy. Something totally different to take the place of ballet flats. Nice color. Not breaking the bank so limited time left to wear this year is ok.

Cons: Not sure how well they stay on your feet for walking around more than in the house. Make feet look kind of long.

Fatal flaw: They squeak!

I like them a lot but can't have that! How do you stop a shoe from squeaking? Os it because there is no sock? Awkward!

What do you think? Honest opinions ok!

They look nice on you! Can you try them on with trouser type stockings just to see if the squeaking stops?
I think those slides also come in the hair/animal print which I have, I don't think mine squeak, but now that you mention it I will check again.

Great colour to bookend your hair colour. I find mules are OK for short distances + not for walking too briskly. Not sure if any of these suggestions to stop the squeaking work http://www.wikihow.com/Stop-Yo.....-Squeaking

It's so weird. I loved mules ages ago the last time they were in style. I think half my closet were mules. They worked great for my particular foot issues, particularly the annoying rub on back of ankle issue I get with a lot of shoes that are sized for taller people.

(Digression: I'm 5'0 wear a size 6... why oh why can't shoe makers shorten the size of the back part AND the front part, accordingly??? Not just length. GRRRR. This has gotten worse, not better, favorite shoes I've tried to duplicate a year later... are higher in these two spots, just annoyingly, rubbingly, gratingly so!!)

Anyway I was soooooo happy to see mules back in style!! I have one pair I added. I wear them a lot, love them.

But yeah... you can't walk as far or as briskly. I don't remember that part!

Joyce, the trouser socks did stop the squeak, but not exactly the look I'm going for. The whole idea is slip on, slip off, no fuss, right? Or maybe they make toe socks for this purpose kind of like the tiny socks that aren't supposed to show.

Lozz, thanks for the tips. Maybe powering foot or shoe is the answer.

Not sure if these are going to make the cut. Pretty funny though!

Shiny, I have the same problem with shoes killing the back of my ankle. I think it's partly foot shape--my foot doesn't go "in" at the Achilles as much as other people's feet that I've looked at--but also, of course, size grading without checking for fit on real people. I'm 5'3" (I used to say 5'2" but the doctor keeps giving me an extra inch these days so I'll take it!) and my foot is a low-volume size US 5.

The only tip I have, besides moleskin to line the inside while you break in the shoe, is heel lifts for closed-toe shoes, especially if they're made from synthetic materials. I bought a pair of New Balance sneakers--real sneakers! not fashion sneakers even--that killed the backs of my ankles until I took them to the cobbler in desperation and they inserted a wedge under the heel. They're now wearable without socks for light walking and very comfy with socks.

Pic 3 nicely illustrates how shoes close to your skin color elongate the legs

Squeaks: find out where it's coming from and lube it, like with Vaseline. Just a teeny tiny bit. Or wait it out.

I love the look on you. Great color! However, I returned mine because I was having difficulty keeping them on! They were so uncomfortable. I didn't notice a squeak.

Can you order another identical pair? My Earthies Essens squeaked too, and I was able to order another pair, and those did not.

I think the shaping of the toe is quite elegant, and very flattering to your foot.

I had shoes that squeaked because of the way they rubbed on my toenail. Lotion on my feet stopped it.

I love these shoes on you. If the socks stopped the squeak would a liner on the sole do the same? I have actually seen little toe socks but it seems like they would come off.

Adore those on you - I have had them in my shopping bag three separate times but did not bite and I'm glad for it since my foot runs a little wider and it sounds like these wouldn't have suited me.

Do you have a cobbler you like that you could take them to re: the squeak? Is the squeak coming from the sole or from the friction of your foot inside the upper?
