Shoe help! Can blue or green ever count as low contrast neutrals?

I'm checking out these summer sandals.

I want them to be low contrast but I'm worried that the nude might be too nude. Could the light green or light blue ever work as low contrast neutrals? Or should I stick with the nude?

YAY: Green or blue could be low contrast neutrals

If you picked YAY, please let me know which one you think would be better. I like both. Is baby blue cuter, or is the green hipper? They would be for casual work and OTG. I already have several pairs of dressier high heel sandals.

My gray boots work as a nude for me, so I think the blue or green could work. I'm thinking the green would be better, maybe. Which one works better might depend on how TTL the colors are and your skin undertones. The pics look a bit saturated on my screen, which might be a problem with your fair skin, but they may look different IRL.

Rita, I think they might work because both the blue and the green seem to be muted, "dustier" shades and not super bright. Depends on how pale your skin is though. (On me, it would work, I think, but your skin tone is obviously different from mine).

I definitely think that either blue or green could work. I prefer the blue. I also think that this particular nude is an odd shade, and doesn't look like it would be universally flattering.

For me this has a complicated answer. I have a pair of muted green sandals for a couple of years now.They do blend in wit my skin tone but never felt them as true neutrals.When I wear them I always feel that the outfit has to be either in contrasting colors or some color scheme ha works with them. They do not work as a nude sandal tat you just trow on without giving a second thought about the rest of the outfit.

Are you in love with the shoe itself?
They look a little too clunky for your frame, in my opinion, especially if not in a true nude.

I like the shoe a lot. I had the Target version last year. By the time I decided that I wanted the real leather version of the shoe in August, my size was sold out everywhere. The Target ones are worn out and need to be replaced. I think I like the Target ones just a smidge better, they were more of a natural tan leather color than this peachy-pink.

I think Celia is right, and while looking at them on a monitor may let us see them as neutral, they don't generally function that way IRL. Blue or green, even in the muted shades shown, will still probably make you think twice about pairing them with any other colour, or even different shades of blue or green.

The beauty of a nude show, which you already know, is that there is no coordinating involved and you can toss them on with virtually anything. I just don't think the blue or green could ever function that way.

I think they can work as a semi-neutral if the tone is light enough. But having said that, I have a pair of light olive shoes and find them weirdly difficult to wear. Here's a pic.

The angle is bad because DH was towering over me, not only with his natural height, but also standing on a step. Ugh. So they aren't actually THAT stumpifying.

These sandals look great in terms of style Rita but I'm unsure about the colour. I agree that the "nude" here is very peachy looking and if I was picking one of the other colours, I'd probably go with the green. That having been said, I'm not sure the green is "soft" or muted enough to act as a true neutral. Is there anywhere you can actually see them in person?

Perhaps I should wait. Last year they were available in yellow but I don't see them now. Maybe they will come back. I am not good at waiting. I'm afraid if I wait to see if they release yellow again this year, the other colors will sell out in my size.

Suz, I don't think those are stumpifying at all. I'm not sure how they could be with the white straps.

I'm starting to see that the green is too dark to be a neutral. If it was pale green, I think it would work better.

Well, I think the colors could work as a nude-ish on you, and I would chose blue or green based on what team you're on (Team Blue or Team Green).

I'm actually on the hunt for a new pair of green flats to wear as a neutral. So my vote is definitely yes for olive as a neutral!

The blue is close to being a neutral, but it would be better if the green were that same hue (or is it shade? I always confuse these) Nude colors are way too hard and there is a lot of leather to this shoe. I have some strappy Clarks in similar blue that are sort of neutral, but in the end just blue sandals in my world. But I get a lot of wear from them because I like blue and have a lot of it in my summer wardrobe.

In quilting light (sage?) green is often used as a neutral color for the quilting stitches on a colorful quilt so yes it can be a neutral. Grey blue can also work at times so you're not totally off base here.

Ok, being that the case I'd start with ordering the nude because I think that is the one color you have to try on IRL, before dismissing. Fleshy tones can vary so much depending on monitors, that it is a shot in the dark to know the exact hue.
If not, I would go with the blue, it has a better shot of acting as a neutral since it is so close to grey. I'm hopeful you can find the yellow ones, that would be awesome.

You have already gotten a lot of good advice. They both could function as pseudo-neutrals, but would also depend on what you plan wearing them with, For example, if you wear a lot of blue jeans, the blue ones would blend in effortlessly.

I think they would only work as a nude if the color is low contrast against _your_ skin, Rita. If you have really light skin, a powdery blue could be a nude whereas on someone with darker skin they would pop. Same with olive, against light skin they stand out but with darker skin they would be lower contrast. For those particular sandals, I feel like the green there may be too dark, but the blue would be worth a try if you can't find yellow.

I found them in the palest seafoam green in the sundance catalog. They are probably stock from last summer because I don't see this color being sold anywhere any more. They promised me that if they are not as pictured, if they arrive and the shoes are actually the darker olive green, they will not charge for return shipping.

Rita, I have these shoes in yellow from last year! I wore them in Hawai'i and will do so again. They are strictly vacation shoes for me, but they are the only dressy pair I need to bring. I do not like the "nude" color as I feel it looks somewhat unfinished (and not in a good RATE way). Glad you are trying the seafoam!

They are quite comfy for the height (because of the platform), although my feet always seem to swell from being at the beach all day by the time I wear them out to dinner or whatever.

You will love these shoes! With my vacation wear, I treat the yellow as a neutral.
