Sherlock did the half-tuck! (w/ a sorta not-really spoiler)

...granted, it wasn't his finest moment. But he rocked it as best anyone could.

After reading one of the "link love" links (for some reason I can't find it again) on the fashion of Sherlock Holmes, I paid extra attention to last night's episode.

observations:
1. As the article mentioned, he rarely has his coat buttoned. Though he does spend a lot of time buttoning it at the waist. It never "stays" buttoned- I would think that would drive his ocd crazy.

2. Molly was still the "wallflower" even in a bright yellow dress (as the walls were bright yellow too.) I thought this was probably the most clever of the costumes.

3. I love the nods to the books are previous series- the costume shop hat that managed to become his signature, even modern day. In the final scene, I love how he does the sweeping, around-the-world, bull-fighting motion of putting his coat on in the last scene. I am going to practice that!

4. And finally, a new phobia about removing cinched belts.

Did you notice anything particular last night? Or have tendancies in general to analyze the costumes in any particular show?

I thought the walls were the most glorious fashion statement in the episode! Made me swoon for spring! But I LOVE your notion that Molly was so truly a wallflower in her matching yellow -- brilliant.
I could not help but think of Dianthus and her posting about her wedding dress search as I watched the episode.

My favorite part was the show-after-the-show where Martin Freeman talked about how the actress playing Mary is his "missus" in real life!

MaryK -- Get out! I did not know that! How brilliant! I love the addition of a strong female character, and I think both the writing of Mary and the skill of the actor who plays her are top notch.

My DH fell asleep halfway through --- He thinks this season is too much like a rom-com, hee! He fell asleep just when it got intense! As for the fashion, I was stunned by a lot of the sets, and didn't notice much of the costuming, except for the bullfighter move, which was glorious. What an artist's eye you have, Viva! I'd watch Sherlock with you anytime!

BTW -- anybody else see the reveal for the 12th Doctor's costume? I think I spy pleated pants with slouch. While I actually think pleats have their place, something seems less than pleasing with the proportions here. I do love the shot of red, the vest, and the combo of blue and black.

I want his coat (preferably with him still in it). It's reignited my desire for a calf length military coat.

Hmmm....so life reflecting art: I wonder if Bennie (sorry, I call him Bennie) and actress-who-plays-Mary get on as well. I do love her addition to the show and thought it wicked cute when she gave them each/both the thumbs up.

I typically do pay more attention to sets since it's close to what I do, but I paid deliberate attention to costumes instead last night. But I do always study his apartment.

Louise, so unfair you get it first! Although, DH loves the show, but has skipped this season until he can stream it. In a way, I'm jealous of him bc he gets to experience it fresh still. If that makes sense....

I suppose over here next week everyone will be watching the superbowl, but I think I'll stay at Holmes.
