I must say I love sheath dresses. However, they're probably not the best choice for my pearish shape.

I don't have any "fits in top, roomy in bottom" issues - actually, with me it's the other way around because I'm busty. Can I wear a sheath dress, then? Or is it a no-no for the well endowed?

I think anyone can wear a sheath dress.. you just have to find a good fit. And being more well endowed a lower cut neckline would work much better for you... a v-neck would be best, although it seems to be hard to find a v-neck sheath dress for some reason. A higher neckline can work if you add a long necklace too.

I don't see why not. As Queenie said, you just need to find one that fits well. I think they're out there for you.

Hmm. I think I need to have "sheath dress" defined for me. Can a knit ever be a sheath?

Magda, I am a well-endowed, hourglassy pear. I'm not sure what sort of sheath you're after (ie, work, cocktail party, etc), but I too have been looking for sheaths that flatter my shape. It's tricky, but I think it can be done with patience.

I'm not sure a sheath typically has a waistband. I think of a sheath as loosely fitted and one piece of fabric top to bottom like the one Itari linked to.
BUT Melissa... that is a super cute dress and looks like it would be very flattering! Have you posted a picture of yourself in it?

I don't think sheath dresses are for everyone - definitely not. Just like wraps are not for everyone.

Magda, it really depends on HOW pear shaped you are. I would not put a traditional pear shaped gal in a straight sheath dress. Fit and flares look 100% better. But if you are slightly pear shaped - like Laura - you can get the right sheath dress to fit. Alterations are sometimes in order. You are after a lower neckline with your fuller bust.

Melissa, sheath dresses can be made of knits for sure.

I always thought that sheath dress is a fitted dress, not loosely fitted... Am I mistaken here?
Magda, I do not see you as a "traditional" pear - you look pretty much balanced on the top and bottom for me. However when you have curves it is difficult to find a fitted dress which ...well, fits. I guess you would need to have it altered for the best fit. You look great in the pencil skirt so sheath should work for you too.

Thanks for asking Magda, I was curious to the answer. I always try sheath dresses because I like the look but they never fit me.
