I'm getting ready to go into the tailor next week, and I have a big stack of clothes that need tailoring. It's embarrassing that I have this tendency to buy items figuring I will have them tailored, then procrastinate for months on end and never get around to it! And yet, once I do get around to it, it will be really nice to have all these "new" items to wear.
One of these items is a very nice black sheath dress, made of 3-season wool. I bought this in the spring at Nordie's in the petite department, during a time when I was on the hunt for THE perfect sheath. It is much better quality than the ATL ponte knit that nearly ruined my white purse when the dye ran! I'm afraid that one will probably have to be culled out.
The dress fits me perfectly except it's a few inches too long. I've dragged my feet about getting it shortened because I was telling myself that a more modest hemline isn't such a bad thing, but then every time I'd go to wear it, I'd feel frumpy in it compared to the ATL sheath with the above-the-knee hemline. So I have concluded I really need to have the hem taken up. Once I do that, I imagine this is going to be a workhorse, classic piece for me that gets years and years of use, as I've really enjoyed the ATL sheath.
But, the neckline is high - straight across. I'm not sure this is the ideal neckline for me. On the one hand, I like how that neckline works under jackets. On the other hand, my neck is short. But adding the right necklace or a long scarf (like I do with the ATL sheath) can minimize the effects. And I do like something more modest, that covers up the aging skin on my chest, and is fully work appropriate too.
I'm debating about having the tailor change the neckline. What do you think? And can you post pics of sheaths with necklines you would recommend for me, so I can get a picture in my head (and take something to show the tailor)? A modest V-neck? A slight scoop neck? Or just leave it alone?
