Shearling Aviator Jacket. Ask Angie and everyone?

So I got a 15% coupon code for Bloomingdales. I've been thinking of getting a shearling aviator jacket.
I have other items by Vince so I'm pretty happy with their fit and quality. However this is not cheap at all. But it appears to fully lined in shearling, as opposed to only trim in other jackets I've seen. This appeals to me.
Do you think this will be a passing trend? At this price it's definitely more of an investment piece.
I'm discovering that in my off days I'm often running errands and never inside long enough to take off my outerwear. I wondering if I should build up a coat/jacket wardrobe.

It's gorgeous, but from what I can tell by the photo, I don't think you can wear it with much more than a tee or thin sweater, which makes it low on the versatility factor. Being able to layer a coat over a tee AND a sweater is a must for me.

Also, I think it would be too warm to wear inside for more than a few minutes. I'm so hot-natured, I would probably have a heat stroke!

Oh my gawd, this jacket is so gorgeous I got a side cramp looking at the photos. But even I - who can justify all manner of outerwear living where I do - am just not sure this is practical in any way. It is a major fashion statement, though.

I have seen some nice imitation shearing pieces, and even a couple of real ones for half that price, in Sundance and Territory Ahead. Not as stylin' but along those lines and probably more (ugh) sensible.

Well, this is one chic shearling! I love Vince stuff, and this jacket really looks posh. But...it is an investment piece, and I wonder about its longevity after this season. Also, it's very fitted and cropped; the model is flat-chested so I wonder about it on a woman with breasts who might want to wear a sweater underneath it :). Putting these practical issues aside, does the style resonate with you, so you will feel comfortable wearing it for many seasons?

The jacket is stunning no doubt, but the question I'd pose to myself is "is it worth spending that much on a trend?" Now if this wouldn't be a trend to YOU then the answer would be different, but for me, no.
I'd use the coupon on a fab black strong shouldered jacket, wool long coat, or a fab pair of black pumps.

you are clearly fashion forward and an early trend adopter.

everything about the jacket seems like a classic to me except the really broad collar. so if you can live with being able to date this jacket as very prorsum a/w 2010-11, then by all means get it.

do you have other investment jackets (or other big very recognizable pieces) from three years ago that you wear today? if so, then that's another reason to buy it.

I am clearly at a different budget level than you but I find it expensive even for an investment piece. I am with AlaskaGirl that there are many very similar jackets for 1/3 the price that would be in the same quality range. I dunno - for me it would be better spent on maybe a cheaper alternative and then perhaps another coat, like a wool peacoat to expand the winter coat wardrobe with more options. But if money isn't an object and you love it and will love it 5 years from now even if the look isn't as 'in' - why not go for it?! Guess that wasnt' too helpful - sorry.

Anna, you live in Seattle. You absolutely need a great coat and jacket capsule. Aviators are trending, but to me they seem quite timeless too (like a moto jacket). You certainly have my blessing.

This jacket is beautiful. If something like this is always going to be part of your style i.e. it is completey "you" then I think it's worth investing in. Otherwise it's a lot of money for something you won't love forever.

I think it's a gorgeous investment piece! I think the only thing to watch out for is that spread collar - make sure it works with the proportions of your neck/head.

Anna, I can just picture that jacket on you. I think Angie is right in that aviator style jackets have a timeless quality to them, and most likely you'll get years out of it. Can't wait to see you in it!
