Thank you, Mary, for starting such a positive thread. I've come back to this post all week, but didn't have something worthy to share until today when our 25 yr old son wrote an amazing LinkedIn post about his current job that has taken him all over the world in the past year - 10 countries on 3 continents outside of the US- in which he said:
Lived in and out of airports and hotels. Shared breakfast, lunch, and dinner with colleagues. Got a little better at soccer and explained what lacrosse is to a lot of people. Met a lot of incredibly smart and interesting people. Got asked a lot: how are you doing this in the Coast Guard...?
I have seen how interpersonal relationships serve to align organizations across the globe towards common interests for the betterment of humanity. All it takes is the good will and synergy of a few adventurous liaisons/delegates/diplomats to create lasting partnerships.
This is what we tried to foster when we traveled with the boys over the years. This is testament to work my Dad did, and my interest in international business. And it is such good news, from someone young with a long runway of change-making and diplomacy ahead. Gives me real hope.
