Hi Deb:) I have regular colonoscopies:( Each time I have had polyps removed. So far they have all been harmless except one that I believe had the potential to become "sinister' if left to its own devices. I have a tendency to develop the flat type (which I think might be what you are referencing) that are difficult to see
After my last one last year, I am now on two yearly rotation for my colonoscopy:)
Initially this was all very scary for me. My Dad had bowel cancer. But I now approach it in a much more positive light which is that I have the opportunity for prevention when he didn't. After each procedure I make sure the Doc explains everything to me (I don't always remember it later on) so that I am clear on what is happening, if anything.
I am probably telling you what you already know but my in my case, my Doctor had me have them every 12 months for a couple of years in order to assess how quickly my body creates and develops them, now I am on 2 yearly.
A friend of mine, who has a family history of bowel cancer has them 3 yearly. He has only once had a polyp. I get the impression that 3 years might be along as they stretch it out here.
For me this is now just one of the many things I do regularly, like breast test, pap smear, eye checks, etc.
Happy to answer any questions if I can help:)
xxx Deborah
